Sister car had a dead battery, she was trying to use a portable jump-starter on it in the dark, I had emphasised the correct connection of the leads, but she connected them the wrong way around for a second before realising. The car started up fine afterwards and I went over the electrics no damage has been done luckily, although the headunit seems to have suffered.
I have checked all fuses with a test light they are still good. Unless the fuse on the back of the unit has blown it must be dead. Can they be repaired easily? Im pretty good with a soldering iron. Or is it a good chance its just the fuse on the back blown?
Second question is if they're not worth repairing im just going to get a bottom range pioneer to replace it. The current one looks pretty old (cd slot behind flip face) I can get the model number if anyone wants it.. Will they have the same plugs/pin arrangement?? I would think so.
Cheers.
id say the fuse on the back is probally blown, and most cd players have a simialr plug arrangemeant
If it's not the fuse on the back, it is likely to be a burnt main ground track on the under side of the board (easy to fix) or blown protection diodes across the + and - tracks near the main look plug (fairly easy fix too).
Thanks for that. Decided to pull it out and check, and looks like the fuse has saved it. Went and bought a new 10amp mini blade and it fired back upWasn't looking forward to opening it up.
Weird though that it was the only fuse in the whole car to blow.
Cheers
