got a vdo 4x40 mp3 head unit which isnt the best but got it 4 nothin had a crappy pair of 6" speakers in the back dont even have a brand name on them but i think there standard holden speakers, now i bought a pair of sony 6x9 3way XS-GTF6935B 300watt speakers for the rear fitted them today and the crappy ones that were in there b4 sounded better theres hardly any bass at all i thought there would of been more bass than the crappy speakers.
I thought i might of stuffed up somewhere but went over everything like 6 times all i wanted was a bit more sound and a bit more bass anyone have any suggestions ?????![]()
get rid of the sony speakers i had same trouble wit my vx the factory speakers sounded better than the sony ones i put in they went straight in the bin and got some decent pioneers
ive got 260 watt pioneers and sum ****ty 6x9 in the back <-- bassy and sounds good..! i think it depends on your headunit for quality sound tooget a pioneer headunit!
So are you getting any sound from the 6x9s?
Can you explain how you've wired them up? Either something is wrong, or that's just how the speakers sound. Remember it's a large car and you won't get the 6x9 punch you'd get in a hatchback or mid-sized car.
If you're powering them directly off the head unit, there isn't a lot to mess up, check the wiring diagram that came with the VDO deck, make sure you have rear-left/right wired up to the speakers and thats it! If they are making noise and just don't sound like you want, maybe you need a sub?
Your speakers could be out of phase. Make sure you've got positives and negatives around the right way on both speakers.
Also, you're severely underpowering them if you're running them off the headunit without an amp. You've got 40w peak per channel, equtes to something like 12w RMS or something like that. ****weak, anyway. Presumably you've got them wired up one channel per speaker, so you've only got 40w peak powering 150w peak speakers. Turn it up very loud at all and you're going to be severely underpowering them, you'll start to get clipping, and you will burn them out. You won't get much bass out of them without an amp.
I see those speakers are black sony and not red sony, so quality shouldn't be a huge issue. I think you've either wired them out of phase, or they're just drawing too much power to run them at any volume that would produce noticable bass.
you bought sony![]()
New Sony isn't bad. Red Sony was ****, apparently the entire division responsible for that series was 'let go' and the home theatre division took over, that's where Black Sony comes into it. They sound much better![]()
cheers guys might just have to get an amp and a sub and probably a better head unit.
Regardless of which headunit you have, you'll need an amp to run any speakers other than the sub at any high volume/low frequencies.
Go the sub and amp, but any other speakers really need an amp with them. Otherwise you'll be running the sub fine and killing the speakers, or running the sub much lower than it has potential for.
