hey guys, i have a VE SS ute, and ive just recently installed a "audio control LC6i", KICKER 4channel amp, KICKER 12inch sub, and a pair of JL splits......
it sounds and works awesome at low volume levels......
but anythining over 20, the amp cuts out on 'protection'.
ive picked up the speaker outputs direct from the headunit connectors, and i picked up the "REM" from a spare plug sitting in behind the dash which was a 12v supply which comes on only on accesories...
i know there are no shorts anywhere as i have been over the entire circuit a million times, and there is definatly nothing wrong with the amp as i have had it bench tested and it showed no faults.
if anyone has ANY ideas at all on what could be causing this it would be greatly appreciated as it is driving me insane...
CHEERS!
luke.
What level is the line out converter on? (presuming it has adjustable levels)
it doesnt have figures....but the dial is turned up to about a quater....
ALSO, it only happens after bout 10-15mins on the higher volume levels.....not straight away.....but on lower volume levels u can listen to it all day without a problem.

lol all the hot weather comes along and amps start heating up bad. If its only at high volume your amp is cutting out to prevent over heating. maybe mount it in a place with better air flow. a fan maybe? Idno
arr k, cus i installed it a coupla months ago, nd its been doing it since then.. i just havnt gottn round to doing anything about it......i will try giving it better air circulation nd seeing how that goes....
thanks.
could be that the amp is getting a clipped signal, only you just cant hear it yet. although cant really determine this without a CRO
I have head (but dont quote me) that under the seat doesnt give ideal air flow. being a ute im not 100% sure on a good spot to mount it but maybe against the back wall of the cab? then if ya have ya windows open your gettin good air circulation
trentvy, normally under the seat of a ute is fine, because heat rises and mainly sits at the top of the cab, and with a ute there's clearance between the seats and the floor. I've heard people say put the amp under the back seat of a sedan, and that's when they start overheating because there's no air flow. However, if you wanted to it could work on the back of the cabin area inside, but you loose storage space! Hell, you could even mount it on the wall in the tray if you wanted. So long as there's not many things goign to bash into it
but if its overheating wont It get better airflow on the back wall. that might solve the problem?
atm, its under the seat, and its mounted on 4blocks so it has air circulation above and underneath it.....but yeh i may have to mount it on the back wall as it musnt be getting enough air ciculation where it is.......and HOPEFULLY that fixes the problem..
i cant believe how hot these damn things get..
Maybe look into fans? PCCaseGear have some cool fans that can even display the temperature wherever you put the probe as words where the fan blades are! They wire straight into a car :P Computers are 12volt systems too
whats sumthin like that worth?
and where would i get them from?
cheers.
Well, if you wanted a basic fan, like 80mm, probably $12? They're not expensive at all. Just goto a computer shop or computer market? Then just wire them up to positive and negative, with negative you probably have enough power in the amp turn on wire to run the fan too. I think the ones on PC Case Gear with the LED's and what not are like $36 (had a quick look on their site though and couldn't find anything).
Actually, just found these:
80mm UV LED Fan - Blue/Orange 80mm UV LED Fan [C*80LEDUV-B/O] - $2.00 : PC Case Gear, Quality case accessories and components
They look cool, and are only $2 each! If you dont mind lights! (If you do, keep the amp under the seat?) You'll want to use as many as you can, in which case you can just wire a simple relay to the amp turn on wire and take the power from the power cable to the amp. [That one has 3 pins, but you only need to use 2 which do power, the other one is for a motherboard to monitor the speed of the fan]
However you might want to look for sleeve [not ball bearing] fans. They're better at running a lot. And are usually quiter. Although i run 2 Antecs in my server and i can't hear them at night, and i sleep about 3 metres away from that server. Maybe go for silent fans? :P
sweet...ill scope out a comp shop moz.
thanks heaps for that man!
hi can anyone help ive tryed to fit a sub in my sv6 ute 2009 i saw on another forum the wires to use on the head unit ive put a hi lo converter in line to a crossover then to the amp then sub but when i turn it on i just get a pulsing bass line from the sub with the sterio turned off can someone tell me witch 4 wires it is comming from the side of the head unit that i use
Youve got it wired wrong.
Speaker wires >>>> Line Out Converter (Hi Lo converter) >>>> RCA inputs on amp
Then you go:
Speaker outputs on amp >>>> Subwoofer terminals.
