just removing my dash facia from my vt, after taking out my headunit there seems to be a rectangular bracket that was holding my headunit in position.
it seems to be curled around the little lip of the facia andis causing my grief as i cant get the bracket out. it doesnt seem to be stuck anywhere
just wondering if anyone knew how to remove them (bracket)???
I assume you want to remove it so you can mount your new Headunit?
It requires removal of a lot more of the dash, not really worth the hassle, Do what most people do and just wedge the new head unit in place, the friction is enough to hold it pretty tight.
Have fun.
yeeeh theres that but i also wanna take it out to get to a blown globe in the ac controls....thats why i kinda wanna keep it soo i can force it in later but take it out now....damnnnnnn
So its the fascia your trying to get out?
there's heaps of threads about it, this should help
Blue LED Dash Conversion
lol...im trying to get the fascia out but the bracket that was holding my after market H/U is stopping it from coming out. i cant see anything that looks to be holding it in place is it possible that it was just squashed in there?
Theres a few ways to mount an aftermarket head-unit in, one way is to screw or pot-rivet the "cradle" that came with the head-unit. The other way i know of is to use two little strips of metal straps, screwed to either side of the head-unit and then screwed into the metal bracket on the car. Its probably not the second one as you'd see to peices of metal below the headunit on either side.
Once you take out the pocket underneath the stereo (assuming it s a single DIN unit) have a look at the underside of the stereo, is there some type of bracket or a cradle there?
im prettty sure it looks as if theres a pop rivet on either side...any tips on how to get it out before i just go head and attach a tie down to it and rip out?
i havnt got any tools that will allow me to pop rivet it back in....
Probably best of you take a pic of these pop rivets, and where they are located etc.
If the installer has used the cradle and pop riveted in place, then it would be a matter of drilling/cutting the pop rivet out and removing the cradle.
