VY CFA Mod

Hi All,

Having some difficulty with a mod I want to do and was wondering if you guys could possibly offer any advice.

I'm a vol with CFA down here in Melbourne and am wanting to listen to my scanner over the cars stereo.

The output on the scanner is a standard 3.5mm aux out.

First problem, Where does the scanner go?
I have it in the glove box powered by the cigarette lighter.

Second Problem, How to get a good signal for the scanner?
I have a device which supposdely splits the signal for the car's retractable antenna and converts it to a BNC connection designed specifically for scanners.

Third Problem, How do you get the audio of the scanner to go through the cars stereo?
I was planning on getting one of Phreddy's Aux Input connections and just go 3.5mm to 3.5mm

Okay so it seems I have it all sorted but I don't.

I'm not sure how to get this to work if the radio is switched off. See with the VY if you're not using the radio then the antenna automatically retracts. I would have to have the radio on if I want to get a signal, that would then mean by having the radio on I couldn't use the 3.5mm Aux input to the stereo.

I actually have no idea how Phreddy's mod integrates with the head unit?
As in what happens to the head unit when you push the 3.5mm button does the screen change and say AUX IN or does it just go blank and your sound comes through the stereo?

I spoke to a friend who is an auto elec and reckons there is a way to trigger the antenna by the scanners signal e.g. If I was listening to a CD and I switched on my scanner it would then raise the cars antenna.

Just wondered if he was correct as I have no idea how these systems all work and if you could give me some advice?

First problem, Where does the scanner go?

ok if you had a single din aftermarket headunit id say put it under that inseat of the fascia. but id say either in the glovebox or center console. or my dad has his cb tucked against the drivers side footwell. which would be sitting on where your fuse box cover folds down so id advise against it.

mate phreddys mod (in a nutshell simplest as possible) mutes whatever your listening to (cd, am,fm). so if your listening to radio it should just mute it and ur arieal would stay up, but I got a funny feeling that hes modded it so when AUX is turned on the areal goes down.(not 100% if someone can clarify cheers)

Yeah...Phreddy has got the antenna override working so when the AUX button is switched on, the antenna quickly retracts!

You could just not connect the antenna inhibit wire and it would stay up!

Ok so my last two questions then are:
1. Do you think the scanner will recieve any interference if its using the radio and trying to scan/listen at the same time?

2. How can I contact Phreddy quickly to make an order? I've tried the usual email/pm but seems he hasn't got it? Any phone numbers or known ways of contacting him?

You could try posting a "I'm trying to contact you" thread in his ASR sub-forum? I'm sure if it was to make a sale he wouldn't mind.

Usually a PM is enough, but I think he's been quite busy lately and possibly hasn't had time to get on the forums.
