Hiya,
My VZ Equipe has a stock 6cd stacker with upgraded door speakers and they sound pretty good.
However, I want more deeper soundat low volumes (<30) and wondering which way to go. I have recently got Phreddy's RCA output mod done.
Below are 2 options that I know of -
Option 1: Mono amp powering a 12" subwoofer in the boot
Option 2: 2 channel amp in the boot, powering the two 6x9 rear (parcel shelf) speakers.
I KNOW that sound is a personal preference and I wish I knew 2 people who have Option 1 and Option 2 each installed, so that I could get a live demo and let my ears decide. But, no such luckHaving said that, is there a JCCC member with any of the above set-up living in or around lwer north shore Sydney and willing to give a 2 mins demo????
I am not after too much volume...the kind where the house in the next block knows the car is near. At most times, I listen to music with all windows up and want a richer or more immersive experience.
Any suggestion / idea / advice / personal experience is welcome.
Cheers,
AM
depends where you live mate. Ive got my 6x9s runing off the head unit and it sounds fantastic. the bass isnt over powering but its good clear sound. And im sure with an amp itd sound even better. course on the 23rd Im picking up my fusion dual 12" subs ;-) cause I like it overpowering![]()
In my opinion a dedicated subwoofer and monoblock amplifier is the best option. 6x9s will provide a fair amount of bass, but will never match a subwoofer in terms of output (not really an issue here) but more importantly sound quality.
Basically, 6x9s are a good all round speaker that has been designed to produce a little more bass than 6.5" speakers.
Two things you'll have to consider though:
1) Budget - A decent pair of 6x9s and a 2ch amp with around 80-120wrms per channel is going to be cheaper than a 10-12" subwoofer, enclosure and monoblock amplifier. Ofcourse it all depends on the quality of each setup, but on an average the 6x9s will be cheaper.
2) Space, the subwoofer/enclosure will take up space in the boot, depending on whether the enclosure is custom built for your car or a "prefab" one will also make a difference. If you require boot space often, maybe a sub isnt really ideal.
id recommend a sub and mono..... dont get me wrong, my 6x9's served me well when they were amped (when i didnt have enough money for a sub and mono) but if you have the money then go for a sub
bass is an addiction, the more u have the more you want![]()
ageed!!!
once you have a sub in your system you will wonder how you ever listened to music without it.
nearly all home theatres have ( all the good ones) so there must be something to it.
no matter what style of music you listen to you will not only hear but feel it which adds to the whole enjoyment of music.

yeh i went with the twin sub and monoblock amp option... im not a huge car audio fan so its pretty simple and does it for me
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
Thanks guys...your opinion is highly appreciated. Will keep everyone posted once I have got a decent installation done. At this point in time, I value the boot space too much as it rakes in quite a bit on family holidays
Cheers,
AM
