Exclamation Vz SS Audio System Help help help

just bought a ss and i want to deck out the sound system.

first of all what would be a decent setup do u guys think
i was thinking about a touch screen source like the AVH 4050 by pioneer + a combination of these not exactly sure which ones i want thats what you guys are for i have no experience in this area so ur prolly gonna have to spell it out for me

pretty much need to work out what combination of speakers (6"x9") (6") and
subwoofers i want i listen to a bit of everything but i do like my bass

amp setups what order to wire the speakers up

list of products im going to be needing etc. ideal speakers, subs, amps
i hear you cant look past alpine for the speakers subs and amps and the pioneers are good for 2 din head units so blast me if im wrong, also heard you can get subwoofer enclosures made for vy-vz boots that fit nicely on one side with plenty of space to close the lid?

how much a setup like this is prolly going to cost i dare say i dont have the balls to install it myself so how much do ppl slog u to install?

    thx in advance guys

first off we need to know what sort of budget you are looking at spending, then you need to consider what it is you are wanting to get out of the system. Are you going to be watching DVDs, are you going to want to enter SPL competitions or do you just want a good street beater?

I can say a couple of things first up, forget 6x9s if you are going with a sub, they are only useful if you dont want to add a sub. I even prefer to forget rears altogether and spend as much money as I can on the fornt speakers. rear speakers are only for passengers.

next Alpine and pioneer arent necessarily the bees knees. personally I cant stand alpine speakers, subs or their current amps, I do like alpine HUs though. i also wouldnt touch anything below the Pioneer P80RS with a 10 ft pole for my source. but then again I also compete in SQ competetions and have different priorities than you may have.

yeah prolly looking just for a nice street beater, nothing to over the top but i also wanna keep the standard looking console so i definetly need a 2din source, i dont really want to spend ne more then 2000$ on a setup, so in your opinion i should get 4x 6" speaker to replace my stock ones (any suggestion in brand model) and 2 amps? 1 x mono 1x 4 channel and a xxx watt sub?

Basically, youre right......although for the front you'll be needing splits, or component speakers. For your budget i'd say the Alpine Type Rs are good bang for your buck, and play really loud provided theyre set up properly (mainly power given, HPF and tweeter location). An amp to power them, anything with around 80-150wrms will be ideal. Brand choice is up to you, but as you say brands like Alpine, Pioneer etc will have good build quality, look good and last a fair amount of time.

Rears as ive said many times arent important, the furthest i would go is a set of cheap coaxials. Whatever way you go running them off the head-unit is the way to go.

Yes you can get pre-moulded enclosures that fit into the corner of the boot, i think a guy on Ebay was selling them? For a monoblock you'll want about 500-1000wrms on tap, the brand once again is up to you.

Wiring is another thing you'll be needing, i'd say 2 runs of 4awg.....its a little overkill but it certainly wont hurt Also 2 sets of RCA cables, which should be good quality. Speaker wiring (spk. amp to front speakers), around 14-12awg.

holdenboy you didnt mention anything about 6x9s? surely a good set of 3way 6x9s in the parcelshelf will aid in good quality sound.

I totally agree with this......there is no need for 6x9s when running a sub. The only benefit you get by using 6x9s in the extra bass they can produce.

you're really going to struggle to have a 2din DVD HU, 4 channel, mono, speakers and sub bought and installed for $2k, a decent 2din DVD will set you back around $1500 alone, something like an Alpine IVA-W202E (RRP $1499), if you are willing to go for a good single DIN HU your options will certainly increase.
also expect to pay at least $500 for everything to be installed by a reputable installer
If we budget $1500 just for the equipment I would split it up like so

    HU - $400 (e.g. Alpine CDA-9884Ei)
    Front Splits - $400 (e.g. Hertz HSK165, Focal 165V1, Boston SX60, DLS R6A, DD DDC6.5)
    4 channel amp - $500 (e.g. Polk PA500.4, DD C4b, Hifonics TXI 6408)
    Sub - $200 (e.g. Hertz ES250, ID10V.3, DLS KW12, DD512)

You seem to be keen on keeping the stock look - have you considered having the factory HU modded to give RCA outs and Aux In? Give nice clean signals to your external amp, the output from the factory unit might just surprise you...

YOu can fit any 6.5 inch speaker into a VZ commodore. As phreddy said the factory unit modded will give a clean signal to your amps, but an aftermarket gives you better adjustment to improve sound quality. And 6x9s can be added with a sub to make a nice sounding system. But is not neccessary.
