    Default Got No Sound :S

    Hey everyone,

Picked up my VT on Saturday and decided last night I was gonna move my Pioneer 8650 from my last car into the VT. Wired it all up plugged it in, the head unit powers on but I get no sound from the speakers at all. I've checked the connection and they all seem right. Any Ideas???

Also, does anyone know where the constant needs to be wired to (yellow/red cable) because at the moment I haven't wired it in because I wasn't sure where to go to.

    Thanks

The stereo shouldnt turn on if you dont have the constant power hooked up.

The yellow cable should be wired to the orange/white wire in the stock loom.
The red cable should be wired to the yellow wire in the stock loom.

Make sure youve got all the speaker wires connected properly and not touching each other, basically each wire you join should be individually insulated.

Have you had a look at the stereo wiring colours thread?

If just 1 speaker wire is being ground you'll get no sound. If you touched power to a speaker wire, you'll usually never have sound again. If you can't get sound by checking and redoing your wiring, take the head unit out and get someone to check it... It's very easy to check out of a car.

all of the cables have been insulated individually so I don't think that's causing it I'm going to double check the wiring again. The yellow and red cables are current both connected as well and the unit does power on however, I have a "3rd" cable in a way which is yellow with a red stripe and am unsure what that is to connect to?

    thanks for the replies

The yellow/red wire is the electric aerial wire, it goes to the blue/white wire on your deck.
The most common reason for having no sound is that one of the speakers is shorted, did they work with the original deck? If yes then the problem is almost certainly with your wiring, if no, then check and see that there are speakers installed and wired. It wouldnt be the first time the previous owner has nicked em before you picked the car up. It's also possible your deck is crook, disconect all the speakers from the deck and check to see the deck works with a speaker you know works.

Hi Mike, the speakers did work with the factory headunit. I'm going to have another look at the wiring hopefully tonight if i get a chance and I'll hook up the aerial wire and see if that works too.

    thanks for the help

Tried the deck tonight with a seperate speaker that works and still got no sound so looks like the verdict is deck is stuffed. Little strange since it was working perfectly in my last car maybe it'll still be fine using the pre-outs?

Most of the time when a head-units' amp fries the RCA preouts still work.

When you tried the seperate speaker are you sure all the other speaker wires were disconnected? if so, were they touching anything?

yeah had all of the other wires disconnected so only one connected was to the seperate speaker. I was thinking the same about the preouts so I'll probably just go down that path once I buy some new splits for the VT

Thought I may as well hijack my own thread since the speakers are still playing up on me. Rewired back in the factory headunit since I now have the security code, thing is now the left hand speakers make this really annoying whining noise and it gets worse when I turned my headlights on. I also noticed that the clock display thing and the other buttons don't light up anymore when I turn my headlights on as well sorta weird.

I'm thinking its a grounding issue or something anyone got any ideas?

That means the deck is trying to earth through the dash light wire, fix it by adding a wire from the deck straight to ground, don't trust the earth wire in the loom.

Just thought I would update everyone turns out I was wrong, when my mate re-wired it for me yesterday while I was at work he got the two grey wires the wrong way around so he had the dimmer out to the left rear negative and vice versa. Reversed the connections and TA DA no annoying noise and now the unit lights up correctly as well.

Thanks for the suggestion on the grounding though mike will keep that in mind never know when that might come up
