Basically bought a car, and the person i bought it from had done a bit of a dodgy with the wiring. Took the stock headunit out and thought my sparky mate had repaired the loom, so we put my JVC speakers and headunit in the car.
Every now and then the speakers seem to cut out, not the sub and everything else runs normal. When you slam the car door, speakers come back on.
Any suggestions on how i can find whats at fault? Seems odd that shutting the drivers door has such an effect.
Can 1 speaker now working cause all 4 to not work?
Yes, one speaker can cause all 4 or not work if the wires going to that speaker are touching earth or touching each other.
Maybe try disconnecting the drivers side front speaker at the head-unit and see if the problem goes away?
Ahh now theres using your noodle.
Before i go fiddle, should it be that one wire/speaker causing the mischief, im guessing it should be easy to find the source of the problem.
But if its not, is there a plan b?
I always run new OFC speaker cable in my Commodores, the factory wiring is shithouse and corrodes like nothing.
It's quite easy to do in the VZ's
The best way to find out which speaker wire is causing the problem is to disconnect all the speaker wires, turn on the head unit (making sure all speaker cables dont touch each other or earth) and connect just one speaker at a time.....you'll notice when you connect a certain speaker that the head-unit mutes the sound. Then you'll know which speaker / wires are the problem![]()
Well i assume its drivers side, when it doesnt work ill push on the drivers side door skin and voila it starts up.
Well there you go, remove the door trim and the speaker, check the wiring and i'd say you'll find a short there somewhere.
Well basically its come down to either wire or something in the door touching something it shouldnt be, or its the wiring behind the headunit.
Either way a 4hour Echuca trip looms, so i must get it fixed.
