Hey guys,
I have a 15" flip down roof monitor installed in my car, and it only has 2 av video plugs in it, being av1 and av2, now av 1 is plugged into my ps2, but i want to have TV installed on it as well, now i know the Ariel is a coax plug, but my monitor only has an av plug,
Now, is there an adapter that can go from a coax to av plug, or can you buy special car - tv Ariels that already have av plugs on the end of them?
Any help would be greatful.

does it actually have a tuner in it? If it only has AV connections then there is a good chance it doesn't actually have a tuner. I have one like that and believe that most are in fact built without an actual receiver/tuner.
Don't like your chances unless the documentation specifically states it has a receiver/tuner.
Not as simple as jamming coax down the AV holes i'm afraid.
EDIT also moved to more appropriate area - you'll get more answers here.
thanks for that mate, I know the lcd doesnt have a tuner in it, but i ebayed and googled and i found these things:
RF MODULATOR- ( FOR OLDER TV'S WITH NO AV INPUTS )-NEW - eBay, Signal Amplifiers, Television Accessories, Electronics. (end time 28-Jan-09 00:09:23 AEDST)
says it converts av signals into coax, so people with old tv's with no av plugs can still use dvd players etc, now if they can do that, is there such a thing that can do it backwards, as in, get a tv signal and transform it into av with the seporate audio/video channels?
P.S i have a power inverter in my car, so anything that will help that uses a power point it also fine. Like the link above
no mate basically what that converter is doing is taking your device, for example a playstation and making it into a connection to the old coax plugs.
If you tried doing it the opposite way you would still need a 'device' on the other end, for example a TV antenna on its own does nothing without something clever attached to make the little waves in the air into pretty pictures which THEN can be sent to your wiz-bang screen.
Picture a computer monitor for example - you can't just ram some coax up it's arse and make tv signals. it needs a tuner and most monitors of this type don't have one.
What you might be able to do it buy a 12volt receiver of some sort, maybe a set-top-box or something that can go between the antenna and the monitor.
I'm not sure what is on the market with regard to this, however.
just read the bit about the inverter - i don't know that digital reception would be any good unless you stayed in the area of a single tower - once you go from one to another it'll drop out completely and you'll most likely have to change channels.
Grab an old VCR and see how you go, you might be able to mount it in the boot or find one small enough to ram under the seat. Most of them have an analogue tuner in them.
thats an idea about the vcr, only problem would be the mounting of it, i have a vcr in the house, il grab it and plug it in and see if i can get a channel, if that works i might just try and find a small one.
I think what you need is a tuner to receive the tv signals, one that has an antenna and av outputs.
Something like this maybe?
BRAND NEW PORTABLE DIGITAL TV RECEIVER TUNER DVBT CAR
I used a vcr i had, and it worked first go, thanks for the help guys, now iv just gotta goto cashies and buy a cheapo vcr lol, and im buying a tv airel for cars that stick on the inside of the back window.
went to cashies today and there are quite a few vcr's for $30, but im still looking around for a smaller one, if such a thing is available? i need it to fit under the passangers seat in my vt so it can be switch on and off and channels changed easily, all vcrs i found will fit depth and height wize, the only one getting me is the wide, all of them are around 36 - 38cm, and the gap under the seat is around 31cm
So.... has anyone seen/heard of a small vcr?
Mate your going about it the wrong way. buy a digital tv tuner designed for cars that has either on glass ariels or bumper bar ariels (recommended). The coax ariels will feed into the digital tuner box and produce a composite output ( red, white, yellow rca plugs) to plug into your monitor. A vcr accepts an analog tuned ariel. Which is one of those big ones that sit on a house or a cheapo rabbit ear one. Although you might be able to get a signal to your monitor through a vcr, as soon as you start driving the picture will distort making it unwatchable. Plus your gonna need a 12volt to 240volt inverter to run the vcr and a analog tuner which will most likely be an on glass one which arnt very reliable. Plus analog broadcast will end soon as well. Justspend a bit of cash on a digital car tv tuner. I reccomend a High TV or an alpine digital tv tuner. But im guesing the 600 or 700 it will cost you is out of your price range.
ive installed digital tuners in may cars and they are more superior to analog, but i reccommend using bumper bar antennas over on glass ones.
why cant you just get a SD set top box
