Default Clarion's OEM steering wiring hype.

I've noticed that Clarion are advertising
OEM steering wheel remote wired interface capability
Has anyone played with it at all? Does capability mean i have to go and buy other bits?

Ive spoken the the clarion rep and i understand that its capability for european vehicles is available without buying extra interfaces but as far as holdens and fords, you still have to buy an interface.

Yeah they're good decks, but the majority of their $250 units have + and - buttons for volume which i hate. The ones with the knob for volume are much easier to use whilst driving for me.

Yeah that was the one i was looking at - it has quite a lot of functions and the usb port would come in handy.
Thanks for the heads up about those other brands. I'll go check them out.

Perhaps consider the clarion dxb386usb. both ipod and usb connection. You can pick them up for about $150 now, absolute bargain
It basically does everything you may need and has a rotary vol control

I initially had one but found the display annoyingly bright at night, others might be okay with it ,it is brilliantly visible in bright sunlight which many are not.
I changed mine over for a dxb586usb, solely because the display can be dimmed lower. It has a few more functions, but nothing I use and isnt as easy to use as the 386 or easy to read in bright sunlight. It has the +/- controls for volume, dont like them either. and doesnt have preset buttons for the radio(wtf, the first car radio Ive ever had without them), but a preset toggle switch....dont like that either.

Also the 586 creates some small annoying clicks at two particular volume levels on mp3 tracks when played from the memory stick, 386 didnt do it.

Of all the other models I checked out, alpine, all of them had backlights on the controls(that were not dimmable) that I would find too distracting for night driving

According to clarion australia, no. Yes you can get the steering wheel controls to work the clarinon unit . But it needs a cat9 interface or similar between the clarion and the steering wheel, deceptive marketing, argueably yes.
