    Default Tweeter Positioning

I am now at the stage of installing my new sound system (in a VZ), but I have hit somewhat of a hitch that I had not considered. According to JL's mounting instructions, the tweeter should ideally be located within 8" of the woofer.

Previously I had just assumed that I would simply mount them in the stock position, however having paid the extra $$$ for the vr600's to get better sound quality, it seems a waste to mount the tweeters in a poor position.

My question, where would you recommend is the best place to mount the tweeters? If need be I am happy to hack and slash away at the door trim to make a suitable mount.

    Cheers, Dave

the pillers where the seat belts are mounted, using the brackets that should have come with the tweeters, cut a round hole the size of the tweeter and mount it flush in the piller, giving you a nice high pitch sound pounding into your ear drum , thats how i mounted mine anyway, in a vt tho

    Crossovers in the dash.

My tweeters are on the kick panels, sounds much better than the stock position or the sail panel near the mirrors.

my cross overs are in the kick panels, and the tweeters on the pillar is a good idea imo, makes the sound more home theater surround sound style, but each to their own i guess.

The B-pillar a ridiculous mounting location for tweeters... The sound from the tweeters is meant to come from the same location as the woofers and they're meant to be as close to equal distance from you as possible. If you put the tweeters on the B-pillar, on is right next to your ear and the other is all the way on the other side of the car, not similar distance at all.

If you want surround sound, you put your front speakers in the front and your rear speakers in the rear

if you put them in the doors or dash, i do believe one is right next to you, and one all the way on the other side of the car. imo, they sound way better, i had my kenwood splits with the tweeters in the doors in my old vl, it sounded shit, with those same kenwood splits in my vt, tweeters in the pillar, sounds wayyy better

In the top of the dash/kick panels, they are at a much more of an equal distance than on the doors or B-pillar

Example... I just measured in my VT from drivers seat to...
    B-pillar right tweeter - 20cm
    B-pillar left tweeter - 110cm
    Difference - 90cm

Top of dash right tweeter - 100
Top of dash left tweeter - 130
    Difference - 30cm

That makes a massive difference to how it sounds.
