I have a vx comm with stock speakers and factory head unit and have just put in 2 Kennwood W0311's and a Kennwood 9104d amp and a line in convtor.I have only had them in since yesterday but i have found the bass is taking over the music and was wondering if you can turn the bass down i have already got the bass on the head unit on low. Also i might be looking at a new head unit but do not really want to because i have the steering wheel controls. If i did put one a new head unit in would i have to put in another amp for the stock speakers. But the new head unit is only a last resort if the factory head unit still sounds bad.Just wondering what you guys would do?
Firstly, you can "turn down" the output of the amplifier, which will reduce the bass level. Make sure the bass boost isnt on or up on the amp firstly, if its off then adjust the gain on the amp........turn it down a little at a time and have a listen, keep turning it down untill the bass output is ideal.
Secondly, You dont have to get a new head-unit....the stock one is fine. The only real downsides to it is: 1) No MP3 format support. 2) Limited sound tuning. 3) No RCA ouputs (but can be modded to have them). 4) No external input, like for an ipod (also, can be modded to have one).
If you were to purchase an aftermarket unit you wouldnt have to get an amp to power the stock speakers as they will have an internal amplifier (the same as your stock unit, just with a little more output power).
Just so you know, there are aftermarket steering wheel interfaces available that will allow you to retain the steering whell controls when upgrading head-units. They are a little pricey though (approx. $150+).
Just to let you know i went out today and put it down to 0 but now it is to low so i think i will pull it back out tomoz and fine tune it the only prob with that is i will have my brother breathing down my neck saying what you think your doing seeing it is his car i am just the brain.
Yeah, turning the gain down to "0" will reduce the output too much. Hence why i said to turn it down a little at a time.
A rattling sound from the cone is a sure sigh of stuffed speakers. I would go back to Kenwood and ask them to explain the rattling.
Yeah mate, it sounds like theyre not real healthy. Good luck![]()
