Default Front speakers in a VP

Hey everyone, i know there's already a lot of posts outhere regarding this, but it's a lot to sort through trying to find the right answers, so any help would be greatly appreciated. So far i have 6x9's in the back shelf(well sort of...) and ive replaced the factory dash speakers. I now want to add some speakers to the front doors. It seems most people use the pods from VR/VS series commodores, and use splits with the tweeters mounted up in the factory dash holes. But seeing as ive already used this location, can i put the tweeter somewhere else, or should i just go with a really good set of coaxials. And do you have to cut a hole in the door itself to allow enough space for the speaker, or do they mount in the pods themseslves. Are the pods 6inch or 6.5 inch, or does it matter. Thanks to anyone who has previous experience with this and can help me

    Hi there,

To answer your first question do you have an amp to run the speakers? If not then I would put speakers in the doors and not worry about the dash speakers. If you try to hook all 6 speakers up to the head unit then you will overload the unit and it will overheat....... Speakers sound so much better in doors than in the dash location.

To answer your second question.....You need to cut a hole in the door trim as it allows the speaker to 'Breathe' The door will then become like an enclosure for the speaker, if you dont cut the door trim and mount the speakers to a pod it will sound very 'Tinny' (ie: No Bass). The VR/VS Pods are 6 inch from factory you can mount a 6.5 inch speaker to the pod you just need to cut a little bit out of the plastic that the speaker mounts to......

If you need anymore help then just ask........

    cheers

Stealthy finally got the 6x9's into the shelf, and put some splits in there too, but it looks crap theres just too many speakers on the shelf, will the pods also fit on the rear doors? VQZTC- yeah i got a 4channell to the speakers in the back, the 4inch fronts arent amped yet, but i'll connect them to another 4channell when i fit the splits to the front doors. Can the door pods be repainted without looking crap cause they wont match the blue colour scheme.?

they gotta be painted or matched somehow, i not long put front and rear calais seats/door trims/ and centre console in and im getting new carpet and new roof lining done so it would all be a waste if there were these black/grey pods sticking of the doors

You can paint them I have before for a customer....... and you dont necessarily need to use vinyl paint I used automotive paint but you must heat the panel or pod before you paint it else it will go all scaley....... Use a heat gun to heat....... just be careful not to heat it to much..... oh and make sure its clean ie: prepsol.....

    Hope this helps.....

Just to clarify, I know this is a buried topic and all, but I need to know and don't want to start a new topic -

is there sufficient room in the doors of a VP for 6" speakers? I don't want to pull apart my door to be disappointed.
just by looking at the door it doesn't seem that there'll be too much real estate in there, but someone please tell me I'm wrong.

Just get some VS Door pods, they'll screw straight onto your trims, and you can fit the speakers in those.

you have to make some new holes in the trim and drill a few in the door for the bottom.
The speaker pods themselves need holes drilled into the door
