When I have the volume of my speakers down I hear the engine whine. All my grounds are fine, and power cable ran down opp side, but I have read somewhere that you can buy a Ground Loop Isolator or some thing along those lines. All you need to do is plug your RCAs into this unit before you plug into your amp. Does anyone have a link or know where these devices can by purchased?
Cheers
Sadly im having the same issue, just need to know where to buy one of these.
Jaycar do sell a noise filter: 20 Amp Car Noise Filter - Jaycar Electronics Jaycar sell smaller and larger versions depending on how much power your head unit uses.
Before you get one though, I would check and double check everything, maybe get a friend to double check everything. Maybe you simply need to invest a little more into the RCA's? There are a heap of threads around on the same topic if you search 'whine' or something similar. Read through and find what others have done to solve the problem.
You should also read this: The Kings guide to elimanating stereo noise.
Really you shouldnt need to invest in a noise filter.
You're better off fixing the problem that is causing the noise. Those isolators just reduce it, don't actually fix the problem.
What brand head unit do you have?
Thanks for your replys.
I've got a VE SV6 ute and I'm using my stock head unit with the mtx RE-Q5.
Could the remote turn wire running along the power lead add to the problem?
Cheers
Im having RCA Issues from some Sony X-Plod wiring kit, everything else is fine bar the RCAs so they are being returned and swapped tommorow.
Remote wire should not. It carries very little power and should be fairly stable. It wouldnt induce much power into another wire. Any noise induced in it would not really have any effect - so no, no problems there running the remote wire anywhere in the car.
Just had a closer listen and the interference sounds like it's only coming from the tweeters. I heard from a mate that you can buy something that connects to your head unit then runs to the negative of your battery?
Really frustrating now. Might just take it to the pros to see what they think.
Cheers
hi guys i have a sv6 and can say i have the same problem its nothing to do with the aftermarket installation it also happens with a stock system as it did before i upgraded my system. it would need to be something that occurs from factory as that it where it starts. i would love to get something to stop it though because it is slightly annoying at times.
Cheers
Ahhh that's right, now I remember.
It did have that same noise, but now it's more noticeable.
^^^^Does your noise come from both speaker and tweeter? or just one of the two?
i tried those noise filters i actually have power cables run same side as rca loomed together i have to change it but cant be ***ed if theres a problem those noice filters will mask it not getting full potential of ur stereo im fixing mine soon already run battery to boot everything else soon
Is there an ideal place to run the grounds? Any rules i.e not having 2 grounds share the same point etc etc?
Try using the same ground point for multiple amps. This will help minimize ground loop interference. So i was told

Some suggestions
1:Have your amps ground to roughtly the same point
2:Using an ohm meter, ensure the ground point you're using is no more than a few ohms to the negitive terminal from the battery. (if u need more help doing this, ask)
3:Maybe you have to run a cable from the ground on your headunit to a good known chassis earth point. IE, the factory ground to the HU wasnt good enough
Edit: I'm no expert on the subject, but i just did my brothers car's sound system, and did alot of reading on these issues
Most of the reason you get engine whine in a VE is because of the line converter you are using. Ive tried american international, peripheral. And a LC6. The LC6 produce no static at all.
Whats the best cable to use for ground? The ground cable with my amps isnt very long and my Amps are attached to the sub box in my boot. Or is having that too long a problem too lol.
Guys - the "line isolation transformers" referred to above will make MOST of it go away. (by the way - the LIT is NOT a noise filter as such - it breaks the "ground loop" which can sometimes be formed between your head unit and amp via the chassis.)
This is a problem I've encountered with many LOCs, that's why I avoid using them. I don't think your whine is coming through the power feed, the Line Isolation Trannys will halp a little there. They can be bought from Jaycar, one unit per pair of channels. (they cost around $20 each from memory) I doubt very much that a "hotline filter" will help at all.

Cheers, Ill buy one of those this week and let you boys now how it went. Thanks.
Im going to dick around with ground points after i replace my broken RCAs then ill get back to you.
Cheers Timmos,
Will give this a try when I get me act together.
You could try using thicker cables for the ground wires and power wires, ive been using cables for the power and ground that are the same size and had no problems. Also you could try connecting your ground straight to the battery and see if it makes any difference.
Ive been looking at places to ground, wondering where in the boot is a good spot. What are the Parcel Shelves like as a ground?
Just tried the "line isolation transformers" , didn't work. I'm going to run the ground from the RE-Q5 to the amp location and also buy a suppressor for the power and ground wires.
