Hey everyone, i'm starting my install on the vs and i thought before i start cutting into my parcel shelf - does anyone have any ideas about putting a ten inch sub in the middle? I know i'll have to build it up a bit with spacers and stuff but can anyone forsee any other problems or has someone does this?
Cheers.
Wouldn't that be illegal to cut the parcel shelf? Im not sure if it is... hopefully someone knows for sure but why don't you just have them in the boot you will get better sound out of your subs and just have normal speakers in the parcel shelf.
i wasnt going to cut the metal just the parcel shelf sorta cover.. i have this little ten inch sub and wanted to put it somewhere but i have a 12 in the boot so didnt want it to go to waste haha
yes it is illegal to cut the metal section of the parcel shelf and if you get caught, i dont believe you can go back... if the sub is really short and fits onto the chipboard and doesnt hit the metal, ur lucky but other than that id advise against it.
Yeah i thought it was illegal to cut the parcel shelf but if your not cutting the metal go ahead. All tho i don't know what it would sound like because of the boot size, you normally have a certain size box for the sub watts size etc to make it sound good.
mate dont waste your time - mixing two different sized subs is not a good idea it will sound worse then your current single 12, further as above a sub is designed to work under specific conditions - your sub is most likely not suited to a free air application.
i wouldnt bother

thanks for your help guys - will steer away from it now and sell my open air and get another 12 or another set of coaxils for the back. Cheers again guys.
Man every where on this site people say no to sub in the pacel self its not that hard to do and if you take it higher and angle it kinda and if it not hitting the metal witch thats not hard to do the metal will act lik a box do it dude i konw i will
How will the space between the pressed fibre shelf, and the metal act as a box, or an enclosure? Unless the sub is reccomended for a free air application, then it must be in an airtight enclosure. There's a very good reason why you don't see a lot of parcel shelf sub setups these day (think back to the early 90's, they were everywhere)
maybe we could replace the stock wheels with 15 inch subs instead while we are at it.
