Hi there everyone![]()
I am new to the new audio part of the forum just wanted a few opinions from people here on the forum on what kind setup i should get if i wanted to play Metal loud....
My budget is current $1500... i am just not sure what speakers to get as metal isnt your normal doof doof music so just a little unsure as to what to get really.
if anyone has any sugestions on what speakers would work better for metal maybe something that has better responce to it as metal has more then a few singular beats over and over... more constant pounding of blast beats and double kicks more i guess...
Please Let me know as i am racking my brain atm.
ROCK OUT WITH YOUR **** OUT !!!
Make sure yah get a subwoofer sounds awesome with heavy metal/ screamo on them
Planning A System On A Budget
Look at the $1000 system ive suggested, but spend the extra $500 on better front splits (Alpine Type Rs go hard) and a more powerful amp for them (80-120wrms per channel).

Get 2 powerful 10 inch DVC Subs, I had 2 blaupunkt subs back in the day run at 1 ohm and they kicked.
Good thing about 10 inch subs is they have a short excursion so they deal with fast beats better.
hey mate, i blast alot of metal in my car and when i upgraded to really good quality front splits it came alive, the splits have alot more range sounds a mega lot better with guitars and stuff you find in metal
HMM metal style music.
Definately need a GOOD set of splits, I ain't talking about $1000 focals, but not $100 cheapies either. I'm having fantastic luck with ex-demo/display stock so try to find some of those. I got a set of basically new PolkAudio MOMO splits for $250 down from like $600, so shop around.
Obviouly an amp to drive the splits. Something with around 150watts per channel, 2-channel amp should do it.
Maybe a twin 10" subwoofer setup might go well for this style. I know WOW Sight and Sound have these new twin 10" subs in factory ported box by Audiobahn, I've heard them and they are fantastic for $250. Quite loud (but not doof doof style) and quite tight, perfect for your needs. Also gonna need a 800wrms mono to power them, try the new pioneer GM-8400M, cheap and good quality.
Also WOW have half-price installs at the moment. Install cost is huge with car audio. Normally in say a $1500 system, about $500 goes into install, and trust me when I say $1500 worth of GEAR is at least twice the quality of $1000 worth of gear, if you pick the right stuff.
Hope this helps a little bit.

Subs mate
Pioneers are good for the money, definately wont be beaten for the cash. The box they are installed in will however make a huge difference on how they sound.
Im in agreement with most here as far as splits goes....remember subs only play what, 10% of the frequencies produced by music, your splits will play the other 90%.......its probably more like 5% / 95% but anyway, you get what i mean![]()

If your after splits for the front and want amps to drive them. I've got 2 "Sony Seconds" 500W Small Footprint Monoblock amps. I can do them for $175 plus postage (because i just saw your in Sydney). They're rated to give out 290W over a 4 ohm load. Or 500W over a 2 Ohm load. But being a monoblock it will cut out crosstalk.
Monoblocks to run splits? First I ever heard of that... sound quality is all about signal to noise ratio... something sony, pioneer and other brands like that lack. A used $100 Alpine V Power 2x50wrms amp will sound sweet. Good quality equipment looked after lasts forever.

i'm in the same boat...just got a VZ and I need a good setup for Metal.
Also I wanted to retain the steering wheel controls - is there a way to do this after you change head units? -i'm looking to spend around 1500 here as well
I was thinking about getting two 10" subs however I heard that you should use a sealed box for metal as it has a might tighter sound
was looking at going the whole hog, splits at the front..then 6" in the rear door then the subs in the boot, any recommendation for certain brands?
the thing thats really racking my brain here is getting the steering wheel controls to work with the head unit..i dont want to loose that functionality
Yeah with subs no bigger then 10" there more Punchy.

You could go the full rockford power system. thats what im getting but thats talking 5 Grand worth.

wow for 5 grand i definitely wouldn't even consider rockford.
I listen to metal and all my stereo consists of is 2 400w pioneer 6x9's bridged on a sony 600w amp and a 1300w sony sub running off a pioneer 800w mono block. No splits or components. All up probably under $1000 worth and its loud as f**k. Try Pantera.
Techitch - You can keep your steering wheel controls when installing an aftermarket head-unit by purchasing a steering wheel interface kit, available at most car audio retailers for anywhere in between $150-$300.
