i got a budget of $1500 but cant decide on what brand i wanna go... i thought i would ask some peoples on the forum and see what they recommend or what they would prefer ???
so let me know cause i am honestly new to all this audio stuff for car as well![]()
Pioneer, new units are coming out shortly![]()
It's best not to use all of one brand, but if you have to pick out of those 2, go Pioneer![]()
had pioneer gear all in my ute, transferred what i could to the VY, and its never let me down. had a sony HU once. 12 months and it died. also ive had this cruddy axis amp ive had since before i had a car( like 15 or 16 lol) i keep trying to kill it but it wont die! car audio is a funny thing, somethings you dont expect to last and they do others you expect to get a lifetime out of it and it dies a week later.
yeah i am not 2 picky i guess i am just wanting a deck that has a front mount usb port so i can put my mp3 player in my car and play from my mp3 player cause i have a 80GB mp3 player
I guess i would really love that it would have like red led on the deck itself cause i wanna have like a red and black theme with my car...
as my car is black and has black leather in the interior as well
so yeah that is all i care about to be honest
Pioneer! i hate Sony with a passion
I Bout a new 2009 Calrion head unit yesterday, looks good and sounds great.
Pioneer... but if have the extra cash go alpine best investment i ever made
i've had the best luck with clarion. had cheap xplod stuff in the camry and while the sound didn't match the more expensive (at the time) JVC and clarion combo it has certainly been worth the money.
My partner has pioneer headunit and even with shite speakers it does a good job.
Of the two though, pioneer for sound.
Pioneer FTW!!! Although, if you have the money, go Alpine...my 2 cents worth

if you only have a budget of $1500,and you like alpine gear, then why not for now, just get $1500 worth of alpine gear.. You wont be dissapionted if you do, and you'll have the peace of mind knowing you didn't really skimp anywhere on the gear.. Even the entry level head units start around 200bucks, and do a fine job, some type r splits,($350) and either another set for the back, or some type r 6x9's, (another $350) so that's $900, leaving you $600 to spend on a 4 channel amp........Rather than a full setup subs ect- from Sony or who ever else......You can always add some subs in the future, but more importantly for the time in between, at least you'll have some damn fine gear-

just dont know what kind of amp i should use for it to run the 6x9 and the 12"sub properly
if anyone has an idea let me know cause i dont know that much about this kinda stuff
I strongly suggest you listen to that sub before buying it, you basically buying sony's very entry level sub, if you check the web or some other stores, you'll find the sub itself retails for less than $100, you have to ask yourself, at the end of the day, are you really going to be happy with your entry level sub, and your rear coaxials....? What type of MP3 player are you wanting to connect??There's better ways than having a USB port connected Via the front of the H/U, I'd strongly suggest you look around and have a listen to a few products, and avoid buying everything from the same manafactuer, your only limiting your options by doing that, and if have your budget to stick to, but still serious about your sound, i wouldnt be spending more on the head unit than any other compnent, you'd be better off spending $150 on the head unit, rather than $300, then having $350 to spend on your front speakers, rather than $200- also your doubling up on your rear fill speakers, also you will have 6 speakers, I.E 6 channels, but only a 4 channel amp, unless your planning on running your coaxials of the head unit, in this case they probably wouldnt even be heard over your 6x9's, basically making them a waste of $80...don't be fooled into thinking the merrier and the louder, you can get just one pair of speakers, which themselves would be more than capable of out powering all 3 sets of speakers you have listed here..
I'd be suggesting Sony head units. My old car had one, the head unit survied the crash and is now in a VR berlina. 2 years on and still going strong. A nissan pulsar here also has a new sony head unit. Never had any probelms with either. Hence why my new head unit going in my VY is another sony! I dont know why people are saying Sony sound shit, for the price of the speakers and what not they blow the other competitors in the price range away. Yes, they're older stuff was crap, but they've improved quite a bit! I havn't had any problems with my Sony speakers in my old car either, got louder than i wanted it to, and was still clear. Then again, sound is a personal thing, so what sounds good to me, will sound different and could sound crap to someone else. Just seems that all my mates like the sound of Sony stuff too!Actually, thinking about it now too i have Sony everywhere! TV, surround sound system and my computer speakers are even a Sony Mini HiFi unit.
Why did you list Sony gear if everyone said Pioneer?
^^ exactly??
i've had a poineer headunit in my VS and in my previous XE for over 10 years now and my uncle had the unit for at least 2-3years before me, and its never missed a beat. my mates rant about sonys and they have only lasted 2years max! fools!
i have only upgraded it recently because i needed aux in. still love that DEH-636 unit!
hmmm that is very interesting and now i want waste my $80 to get rear speaker in the doors
well my mp3 player is a Microsoft zune MP3 play that has a usb connection was wondering if it would connect to the deck... i would assume it would as it has a usb port on the deck
your MP3 won't be a problem, it will plug into the USB drive, however check first whether once it's connected it can be controlled via the H/U, if you have to control it via the MP3 Player itself, then all you really need on the head unit is a 3.5mm auxillary input, which basically lets you plug any device which plays through headphones into your head unit..![]()
I personally wouldnt touch current pioneer or sony products any day other than Pioneer PRS head units.
No point sticking with one brand, mix and match brands that best suit your applications. No one company is the best at everything. Go into your local specialist store have a chat about what you want to achieve from your system and let them make some recomendations. Then let your ears do what they are desgined to do and listen to the gear. then just choose what sounds best to you that fits in your budget.
Sony a guy at work has a VL with sony Xplod stuff and is one of the best set i have herd its load, clear and looks good to.And is all the cheaper sony stuff to
Well, there was a vehicle feature in Street Commodores, can't remember whch issue, i saw it on my now ex's wall. It was all Sony gear and was able to pump into the 130dB or 140dB range at a competition! But sound is a personal thing, people must remember that when suggesting things, things that sound good to one person will sound crap to someone else.
