hey crew, i need some suggestions.
i've installed splits a few months back, but didnt have another amp so i havent had them connected. i've finally amp'ed up run most of the wiring from the boot to the front, to the tweeters, but still need to find n splice into the existing wiring for the woofers or run new ones (fun i know!).
where have you placed the crossover? i've seen them screwed to the doors but dont want them in view. where can i secure them to out of view. i was contemplating screwing them to the kick panels but on the drivers side the accelerater is in the way.
suggestions?
I have a VP, but i've put my left crossover in the back section of the glovebox, and the right crossover as you said inside the driver's side kick panel. I'm not sure if it would make a difference or not, but i wouldnt have the left crossover in the drivers side, so far from the woofer and tweeter, and keep them equal distance apart, and as close to the speakers as possible..
i wouldnt put both crossovers next to each other, rather each crossover in the same location on each side.
In my VS there's a plastic shelf behind the glove box which is where I've got my left hand one. There's also a shelf on the right hand side in the same position if you drop the panel below the steering column, but its a bit more difficult to get to. after doing the left one i cbf with it and just tech screwed it against a metal strip underneath next to the steering column where there was enough room for the plastic cover to close over it.
thanks crawfy, did u screw it to anything on the left hand side or is that sucker just floating round?
lol tech screwing it, i'll check it out over the weekend.
yeah i drilled a hole through the shelf and just ran a bolt through one of the mounts on the crossover, it's sitting on a carpet sort of lining and doesn't move at all![]()
I stuck mine down with double sided tape, saved a lot of time stuffing around with drilling ect, and it hasn't come loose....yet-![]()
yet another brilliant idea, i have some industrial double sided stuff too, this shit dont let go
ive got mine in my boot mounted next to my amps, look too pretty to hide away![]()
I managed to fit mine behind the plastic air vent cover on either end of dash and drilled them into the metal that's there. It's a pretty tight squeeze but they are out of the way and easy enough to get to if I have to.
Are you saying you put your crossovers for your front splits in the boot? I always thought that the crossover's should have been within a certain distance from the speakers.....just a thought though i could be very wrong- I' ve got my crossovers for my rear splits in the boot, i taped them ( yes tape again!!) to the boot hinge rails.. Thier out of the way from everything and you can't see them either unless you really stick your head in their. i'd just use that industrial strength double side tape you got mate, people always laugh when i say yeah i just got em taped in there, but their not going anywhere, it looks neat cause you can't see any screws, and if you ever wanna sell anything in the future, at least your gear will still be in mint condition-
Crossover distance from the speakers does not matter. Having them so far just means you need 2 long lengths (xover to speakers) & 1 short (from amp to xover) rather than 1 long length (amp to xover) & 2 short lengths (xover to speakers).
Looks i might be relocating my crossover's front the front into the boot aswell then!!
hey mate i put mine in my door pods for the front haha just drilled tiny holes for the speaker wire and put them in there, good if they come loose or anything
sorry, by door pods i mean the little bit where you can stick maps and stuff next to the speaker bit of the door pod
I put mine in the plastic part that is above your feet..... took them out, screwed them in, wired them up then put the plastic bit back in, no one can see it
its just a matter of a couple screws from underneath![]()
thats for the input guys.
i havent done anything on this yet, i'll just put em under the plastic bit, nice and close to the splits, not running 2 lots of speaker wires from the boot, i want to keep it simple, and i prefer sound over looks in the interior. the boot is a different story, eventually.
Where abouts is this plastic bit ephect?
lol it'll actually be above the plastic bit, not under. the plastic bit is above where your feet are when sitting in the seat. behind the bottom of the glove box and behind the bottom of the fuse cover on the drivers side. its screwed up using those plastic screw clip screws should be 3-4 on the passengers side, and 5 on the drivers side.
Agh the beauty of the search tool. just what I was after.
i'm trying to somehow hide it inside the door but the windows are quite annoying.
need to put them somewhere else i guess but i hate all the cable work
