and im doing the stereo at the moment
    so far im running
2 x stereo speakers in the dash
1 x 6 inch sub in the drivers side door
2 x 10 inch flat subs in the parcel shelf
2 x 16 inch subs in the boot
the 16s run off a 520 watt amp in the back

for starters i would get rid of the mix of subs and completely simplify the system if you want something sounding good.
get a nice set of 6.5" splits and put them in the door running off a good 2 channel amp.
get rid of the subs in the doors and parcel shelf and ensure the box for the subs in the boot is made to spec. will sound a whole lot better. more is not always best

I've always though the best sound comes from 6.5" components in the front, and 6.5" speakers in the shelf, running off a 4 channel amp.
Im not expert on subs, but if u like a nice tight bass sound go for 2x10" subs,

If Your Willin To Send A Little Money Go To Autobarn, Strathfeild...ect And Get A Decent Set Up

I'd Personally Go A Good Sent Of Splits In The Front Doors( Maybe Alpine Type R's 6.5inch) With A Smallish 250-300Watt Amp. The For Your Back Doors Just Get a Good Set Of 3Way 6.5inchs Ran Of The Head Deck And Then Either To 10's Or One 12 With A Amp To Suit The Sub/Subs

But It Depends On Wat Type Of Music You Are Into For Metal/Rock/Puck...Ect A Nice Puchy Bass Line Is The Way To Go Or For Hip Hop/Rap/RnB...Ect A Nice Deep Bassy Sub And Amp Setup Is Good But You Dont Wanna Dround Out Your Speach

    Just A Lil Help

In NSW the police will defect you for excessive noise, no matter how loud it is......its just what the deem to be excessive, theres no actual DB level as fair as i know.

yeah scrap all the extra subs. I run 2 800watt Kicker comps powered off a 1000watt mono block with only using 4 gauge wire. At the last springnats i went in the DB run and pulled 165.3dB. If you want a richer sound make sure you use 0-2gauge wire. Thats what i was told to do. to get an increase of around 30-50% more power.

Get a set of nice 6.5 or 6'9 speakers for the parcel shelf and some 6.5 in the front doors.

You can run these from the head unit but for louder crisp sound you could try a 4x whatever stereo amp. Wjatever the lowest wattage of speakers you run you dont want to get an amp that will blow them tho. Also the shorter the amp power cable is the more power you will get.

If you wish to spend the work look at possibly putting the battery in the boot and running power from there. Yes the car will be drawing from the rear of the car but your sound will be better.

yeah like everyone is saying start fresh your system would sound like a mud pit
the only downfall with is it to loud rule is to old copper it is to young dude in car it isn't
so theres no way of saying any system is to loud
would love to see them try and give me a ticket for my system shit would hit the fan

165dB from 1000WRMS WTF! Soundstream used 6500WRMS to make thier record of 167.2dB, so I doubt that reading of yours. And you say your using only 4 gauge wiring.

And you don't get more power by using bigger wiring, its not the supercharger of audio. You should match the wiring to the power needs of your amps. I personally would have used bigger wiring in your case.

LOL 165dB using 4gauge wiring, your car would now be a flaming wreck.

BA HA HA HA HA HA 165.3

the australian record is 164.8 so me thinks you might be fudging your numbers a little bit there

0awg is not going to give you a 50% power gain no matter what and it is no way going to "make the sound richer" whatever that means. thicker cable just means lower voltage drop and when you are only running 1000W (if that is RMS) 4 awg is plenty

I guess they don't sell Commodores with factory subs in QLD then...

Its not illegal to have subs anywhere in Australia. Excessive noise is illegal, but even factory stereo's can create excessive noise.

bass is good mate but u can go overboard were there is no sound quality cos its all bass! i would scrap all the subs, go for some really good quality 6x9's in the parcel tray and some splits in the front running off a good amp then go something like 2 12" jbl or pioneer subs in the boot, thats gonna be plenty of bass!!

There is if you dont want to spend heaps on top of the line splits, and want a louder stereo...

I have Alpine splits, amped.. and kenwood three way 6x9's, amped.. and without them there is a definate difference... the amount of sound that comes out of them is huuuuge...

I have the cross over on the amp set to highs for the 6x9's to let the subs take over the lows..

I dont run any rear speakers at all and I think my system sounds infinitely better than pretty much any that includes 6x9s. Why someone would want sound coming from behind them when listening to music i'll never understand. You don't stand with your back turned from the stage at a concert do you?

No, but there is nothing to look at when you listen to a stereo in your car..

You dont turn around in circles listening to surround sound do you??

Thats your opinion, how could a stereo with two speakers sound infinately better than any other combo of 4 or more speakers?? it would be only coming out of the two front doors, getting muffled by your legs etc..

They have speakers in the front and back of cars, for the same reason quad and 5.1 surround sound for home theaters and tvs . it sounds GOOD!
If it doesnt sound good, you need some better speakers
