Default Big stereo is it really worth it?

Hey all, i keep hearing of everyone wanting to put big stereos in there car, and i'm one of them lol my system cost $3800 and still it's nothing to brag about and the only thing it as done for me is made me a little bit more deaf lol, and made my whole car rattle apart. I guess it's those things you don't think about. But if you like your car i wouldn't bother unless you want to have to turn up your music so you can't hear your car falling to bits on you!

or you could build a system that actually sounds good and is a pleasure every time you turn it on

mine is, but what i'm trying to say is that if you like your car don't get a big system, cause it f***s it in no time. For example about 2 months after i got mine i had to either have my door windows all the way up or all the way down so they didn't sound like they were going to break.

For some people it isnt abouut having a system that can rattle your car apart. Some of us like to have a decent quality sounding stereo, and shitty dual-cone paper speakers running about 5wrms aren't going to provide that.
I know that I never changed my listerning volume when I changed from stock to type-s to amped type-x's (fronts only for comparison), but I enjoy my stereo so much more now than I did this time last year.

If you don't like your car rattling, either fix whatever is moving, or don't turn it up so much.

Like most things though, they wear out your car quicker. Lowering, engine work ect ect But we do it all anyway and enjoy it for the time it does last.

Well mine can do both, but it has honestly made my car sound like shit the whole dash etc rattles, and yeah i've turned it up with me mates but i'm not the type to drive around with it flat out everywhere, i brought it for myself not for everyone else to hear. I'm just trying to say and it's not coming out to clear after a few brews lol but i wish i had of spent that money else where. I could of brought an ss with the stereo money on top of what i payed for my car.

Yeah we do find ways to spend money and yeah it could have been spent on other stuff. If I had not spent the money of audio equipment or other crap on the car, I could be driving a V8 or my V6 could be supercharged AND cammed, do I regret anything, HELL YES, would I change anything HELL NO. Its the stuff we do.

No, Dynamat helps stop resonation, it's not made to stop "rattles". Foam and rubber are to stop rattles.

What is the point of this thread? Just to whinge that you spent $3800 to make your car rattle?

You probably got huge ass subs and run shitty DOOF DOOF music and high wattage speakers....yeah thats one way u can make a sound system, its popular with the VN's in auburn and granville.

Or you can simply buy less powerful, premium high quality speakers and skip the sub. Good amped 6x9s in the parcel shelf deliver crisp bass without rattling your car apart. Enjoy clear, crisp sound at bearable volumes.
My drivers window does rattle when the volumes up. i think its the door rod. I'll have to check it out sometime. Part from that my system doesnt really rattle my car

ffs people stop saying you brought stuff. It is bought!! It just as bad as saying "i brang something".
And to answer the original question, in my opinion it is not worth spending 4 grand on an audio system. Its just a stupid waste of money. Just my opinion. Couple of hundred suits me just fine. Put the money towards a mortgage or save it.

most "big systems" actually sound shit cause its just rushed and not set up correctly and the right products chosen
price has nothing to do with a "big" system Ive seen 5k systems sound like mud
personally quality over quantity or in my case both
sounds like you either have a loud crap system thats not enjoyable to listen to up loud
I'm with 2loud2old if its not pleasurable turn it down/off or think about a new setup

Sometimes less is more. I play in a band with friends, and sometimes less of a wall of sound does more for the overall sound.
I have amped splits in the front doors + 6x9 in shelf, and had rear door speakers running off the HU still. I decided to take them out, fully aware that there would be less sound, but it sound far clearer and better, if a little quieter

yeh and depends on what music too, i listen to a variety of music from rock to dance, rnb, etc and mine will sound better with say rock at a certain level, nice clean base and then will sound shit with some rnb songs, will be almost tiny type bass and then nice clean base with dance songs

and its just standard front and rear door speakers of a pioneer head unit with a single 12" alpine s-type off a pioneer amp, i know its a cheap system and thrown together quick as it was an old sub i had lying around and ebay amp, but does the job fine and when i go to the drive-ins i have no problems either its nice and clean, but will upgrade to a nice set of splits front and rear doors amped and maybe get a better amp for the sub, but thats all you need and i'll do that for under $1,000 and get the dyna mat for the doors and boot, but thats only to keep sound in, but you don't need to spend $3,800 unless you want a kick ass show of style stereo.

a guy i worked with just had standard front speakers in his vr commy and a single 10" pioneer sub and a cheap amp, sounds tough as, can hear it from a mile away and cost him $500 all up and just pure base the whole time but still clear.

I have 2 alpine amps, one 1000 watt for 12" sub (using about a quater of its power) another can't remember lol it's around 400 watts running 2 way 6 by 9 in the parcel shelf and 3 way 6" splits in the front all alpine type-s speakers. Except the sub i blew it up and replaced it with sony x-plode and hooked up a capicator for it, not because it was turned up but cause they hooked it up wrong. It sounds great what ever music you throw at it, and i'm not a DOOF DOOF fan as cewing quoted before, the only time i listen to that is when the misses is in the car, apparently i don't have a say in it lol

yeh i put 2 x sony x-plod subs 12" in my first car, worst subs iv ever had, were the worst sound, sold them same day to a mate and bought pioneer 12" subs, sounded heaps better, they might have changed now and be alot better these days.

They're still not a high-end product... And one 12" sub isn't a "big stereo". This thread is a waste of space

for me personally, big sound systems in cars are a waste of money. You are never going to make a sound system inside a tin can sound good. BOOM-BOOM-BOOM, DOOF-DOOF isn't good quality. It's just bass and that's all it seems to be.

I've spent about $700 all up on my sound system and it does what I want. I'd rather spend the money on performance rather spending money extra ballast that just slows your car down.

I do however spend some big $$ on my home sound system. Much better quality of sound than any car sound system.

But some people love car sound systems, and hence spend big $$ on it - which is fine if it's what they are interested in. It's more of a personal choice thing.

Yeh, well I'm kinda the same, just couldn't justify spending 4000 bucks on a stereo system for the car. It's probably more than what the car is actually worth lol.

However I am looking forward to buying a stereo system for my ute when I get it registered and on the road.
I will be looking to spend hopefully 400 bucks. It's only a ute, so I'll probs only need two speakers, two good quality speakers should do the job I reckon. Apparently unless I' have a subwoofer I will need to use 6x9s instead of the round ones because they are designed to be used without a sub. ???

I actually have a pioneer system with speakers in my lounge room, bought it for my dad but he hasn't used it yet. I think its a DEH2050 off the top of my head and came with two speakers.

I'll post the specs up later, find out if they're any good.

So many people posting in here without actually hearing a good car stereo system... Go to a sound quality comp one day and you'll hear many amazing sounding car audio systems. Better sounding than most home systems

DEH2050MP is the second lowest model of last years range.

LOL. But it can't be that bad can it?

I mean, I'm not after anything fantastic, but want a reasonable quality sound and to be able to plug my mp3/usb device into it. (i think I can plug mp3s into this one).
I just want to enjoy the music, not think about how shit it sounds or then again, how empty my pocket feels.
