Log onto the sponsor's site; Car Care Products / Car Care, Car Wax, Car Polish, Car Covers, Detailing products & more ...

Zaino, Dodo, Duragloss etc are just a few of brands of products which are better than most of the retail outlet bought products.

    Default polish this

no offence but if your asking then you shouldnt be doing it!!!
machine polishing a car correctly is not easy.
but its very easy to cause thousands of dollars of paintwork damage in seconds
a full cut and polish from a crash shop with paint protection can be had for $250-450.
expensive ,not really,if they **** it and buff through your edges they paint it.(check before)
if your still keen just get some good hand polish meguires/geelson/3m and do it yourself by hand and be safe
    good luck
    cheers

Agreed. It's best to have a go on an old spare panel first. Proper machine polishing removes a layer of paint (with an abrasive polish) from the paint work. Machine polishing can build up quite a lot of heat - if you're not careful you can burn through the clear coat and you'll have to re-spray the panel.
Also a random orbital polisher is much better for a newbie then a rotary polisher because it builds up less heat.

For polishing by hand, nothing beats Autoglym Super Resin Polish, you can find it at Autobarn. It's filler heavy (fills up the scratches with a resin) so you get good results without much effort. Top it off with a good wax/protectant (e.g. Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection) otherwise the fillers will wash away and you're back to square one. Over time the fillers will wear off and the scratches will come back, so you have to polish again but that's the trade off.

You can use abrasive polishes by hand which provides a more permanent result, but your arm will be very very sore after doing a whole Commodore and you'll be polishing all day to get decent results... You probably won't be able to remove bad scratches by hand, but light swirls can be removed quite successfully.

I use a meguiars applicator pad (the yellow foam ones) to polish, and a clean microfibre to buff.

Car Care sells excellent random polishing machine, the Megs 220 is a good a excellent start with the Menzerna polish samplers. Enough to fix your car up for years. You only gonna polish with machine once a year if you wax and maintain properly, if that even.

First up the 'stuff / Cut n Polish' is probably not the best especially if you paid about $10-20 for it. As it is a cut and polish, it will 'cut' your paint, so will remove some it each time you polish. If you are having to do this more than every 6 months it is not working.

TMM above came up with some good options. If you are looking for good results by hand then a great start is the Autogylm Car Care Products / Autoglym / Detailing Kits / All Categories / Paintwork Perfection Kit for a little over $40 (remember your discount) you are in business. For light marks or for spot 'cutting' the Paintwork Renovator works, then the AG Super Resin has a very light abrasive but good filling and the Extra Gloss seals.

Otherwise if the paintwork is in fairly good condition and you are just looking for shine and protection then Duragloss is another great product and value for money at again about the $40 mark. You can use the Car Care Products / Duragloss / Exterior / Polish - Cleaner/Wax / Polish and Cleaner on its own ($20) or if you want the protection to last longer combine it with Car Care Products / Duragloss / Exterior / Polish - Cleaner/Wax / Polish Bonding Agent

And as vxcalais01 says - if you want to correct your paint properly then a machine polisher is the only way - your are talking more money up front but then it is 'fixed' or you find a good detailer who will machine polish it and you can then just wax/seal to keep the finish.

As for making the interior shiny - see the plastics thread in this section and the comments but for the same money as the a***all (in the black bottle) you can get the good stuff instead - Car Care Products / 303 Products / Interior / Dash & Trim / Aerospace Protectant The 303 will NOT make the surface greasey, attract dust, it does not contain silicones or solvents that will ultimately dry out and possibly crack plastic.

    Hope this helps

For a nice and shiny interior, use Armor All spray.
It's also good to bring out dull black plastic bumper bars, moulds etc..

The only product to use on your interior and exterior plastics is 303 Aerospace Protectant:

Car Care Products / 303 Products / Interior / Dash & Trim / Aerospace Protectant

It has an anti UV property that will stop plastics deteriorating in the sun. It is silicon free and will leave a nice as new sheen on the dash.

    Cheers Greg

If you really want to waste your money, buy Zymol products, they're all natural and smell like fruit and chocolate. It is the best of the best. It lasts for 6 months and all you need to do to make the paint shiny again is wipe it with a cloth.

What makes them the "best of the best". Also what one were you using that lasted 6 months?
