Unhappy Paint Looks Dull. Need Info Please.

    Hi guys/gals
I bought a VN calais S1 not to long ago, and i must say the paint does not long so good.
The person who owned it before be re-sprayed the car but did not but a clear coat at the end.
After he finished re-spraying the car he left is in his back yard for over a year.
I just want to know if i can take it in and get a clear coat so it can have that shiny finish look because at the moment it look very dull.

What do you guys think i should do?

    Thanks Terry

This is open to so any variables, such as; paint colour, paint condition, any defects such watermarks and bird droppings etc.

You may be able to refinish the paint work and have it cleared but you are better off talking to a local paint shop that can give you an accurate answer with the car in front of them.

Ok thanks. I called a place around the corner from here and they said they wont spray a clear coat and that i have to get a whole new paint job.

Update - Gave another place a call. Charging $799 for a full paint job. I also told him my problem, he said if the car was sparyed in acrylic then you can just give it a light sand, a buff then you should have that shine. But if it was painted in 2pac then i need a new paint job.

How do i find out if the paint is acrylic? Im so lost right now...

The best option is to take it to 3-4 body shops and ask for an opinion, this way they can tell you what the finish is and what the best course of action is. If 2 or 3 are saying the same thing and quoting about the same money - you can hopefully count on their word.

After you have spent the money on respray / re-finish then make sure you put some wax or sealnt over it to protect your investment

    Good luck

if u put thinners on it and it softens it ,its acrylic, also u carn't buff metalic paint if their is no clear on it,your car needs to be resprayed,3 years outside in base coat ,the paint is dead
