When I polish my car I usually follow it up with a wax (Megs Gold Class)
The problem is after I let it dry on the vehicle and buff it off, as per instructions, once you get it out into the sun you can see the initial wax application marks in the paint, and these are almost impossible to get out. The paint is nice and smooth and shiny in shaded areas, but get it into the sun and yeah, not so flash.
I recently polished my gf's black Barina and it came up awesome, so I thought I would give it a go with wax and yep, same marks again. I got that pissed that I gave the entire car another light polish to remove all the marks.
Is there is something I am doing wrong? I polish the cars in my carport when the metal is cool to the touch and I use clean polishing cloths.
Can you give me a bit more info on the products you are using. Are you using the liquid or paste version? What applicator? Has the car be clay bared? What are you polishing it with?

For starters, ditch the gold class, and get the NXT gen 2.0. Id say the marks are caused by your applicator or too much pressure. Thats if you have only waxed it.
Have you buffed it with a rotary buffer? if so you have holograms in your paint eg swirl marks.
I've tried heaps of different applicators and same result. I end up having to buff the car all over again. The only way I have been able to stop it from happening is by applying the wax (in stick form) by machine and using top quality M/F cloths to remove it... My car is black FTR...
I'll have to go and check - I'm interstate at the moment. From memory its a liquid polish but I forget the brand. The polish is not the issue as the car looks flawless after a polish, its the wax. The wax is also a liquid and the applicator is the sponge that came with the wax. The car has not been clay barred.
I only wax after a polish and I lightly apply the wax with the sponge and then buff it off by hand. I have never used a rotary buffer and my paint doesn't have swirl marks at all.
Hmm, maybe another brand is a go. My car is imperial blue and my gf's car is black.
got any pics of what you are talking about? Ive just never had a problem with polishing/waxing and i do it for a living.
It sounds like product smears. I would advise that you start using some quality products that will give a much better result but to help with this situation I would change the applicator to a new fresh foam applicator and work on applying very thin layers of wax. Only the wax touching the car will actually bond. Thick layers of wax may haze up after buffing and cause the smears you are seeing.
