    Default Good budget buff/polisher

Hi all im after a buff/polisher,i dont want to spend big bucks. Its main use will be for older cars that i fix up to sell off again. Not for big dollar paint jobs.I just want to get oxidation and crap off.
    Any suggestions?

Give us a ball park figure on $$$$ I have thrown up a couple Suggestion And have you used a rotary before? If not go for a Randoam orbital first or if you have to use a rotary, start off on slow speeds and as a golden rule: do not stop moving the polisher while going or it could get ugly.

A couple of Cheapy's Random Orbital

    Ryobi ERO750VK $100 has 3.5mm throw
    Megs220 $299 5mm throw

    Rotary

Ozita $100 Varible speed 3 year warranty
Makita 9227CB Varible speed around $400

    The three I have are

Ryobi ERO750VK good for places I dont like to place the rotory, so does it job.
Rotary Ozita I like this as its cheap and has the long body
Metabo PE 12-175 my main work horse is light and short body, takes a bit of getting used to

Two machine I want to add to my arsenal

    Makita 9227CB Around $400
Makita BO 6040 Random Orbital Around $600

If you want to spend more I could thro some more into the equation.

We will have a new Random Orbital polisher available in 3-4 weeks. We have been going through the process of having the machine fully Australian Standards approved and design changes approved with the factory.

It will suit the enthusiast market perfectly and be competitively priced. If you can hold on until stock arrives of the boat you will be happy. More info will be posted asap.

    Cheers Greg

The first 3 are Rotary's (Metabo, Ozito, Ryobi ) and the last a Random orbital (Ryobi). The rotory spins in a circular motion were a Random orbital spins like a Spiro graph (as good as I can discribe it) and doesnt generate heat like a rotary, hence less chance of doing damage. Also forgot the Ryobi Rotary wich can be had for just over $100

Great that clears that up,what i have used was a rotary one and found it easy for me to use and didnt do any damage so id say i will go with one of these.
Where is a good place to get one of the Ryobi ones?Even a model number would be great.

Ryobi have a new model the EAG1518GSP They dont have the Specs on their website, but have TBC next to them what ever that meens. Beware of the RPM of the unit, mine (Ryobi) has speeds between 1000 - 1800 rpm with the lower said to a bit quick for finishing or the novice, I still use the Ryobi as I have learnt how to control tha slightly higher speed, this why I bought the Ozita as it has a speed rating of 900 - 1800rpm the 900 is more like 600, so can do low speed finishing and use for spreading sealtant or wax if I wish to go down that route. The NEW Ozito has a speed rating of 1000 - 3000. so looks like they have bumped up the speed to stop the stess on the gearbox. This is the down fall of the cheaper units that they cant handle the lower speeds as they bog down under load and tend to have variation in speed down low. So just be aware of these pit falls with Cheaper units. My Metabo handles 600-1800 with no hesitation it is light 2.5 compared to the cheaper units around 3.5 that one kilo is a lot after a full day of polishing and dont have to be nice to it, as with the cheaper units you have to work out their boundries .

Ok so i have got myself the Ryobi EAG1518GSP,it comes with a wool bonnet but im thinking i need more.I would need a different one for application and then for buffing off. What do you guys recomend? Not too expensive please.
At the moment i will be doing two cars, one is a 85 landcruiser(blue)that is very chalky but seems good underneath and the other is an XF Spac(red)and has only 85th klms.Has always been under cover but being red its a bit chalky too.
Id like to use one product if i could for the polish and maybe a decent wash to get rid of the chalkyness before hand.
    Any help would be great.

not to cut CCP's products down, but i used meguiars deep crystal paint cleaner on my VR when it was chalky, simple 'wax on/wax off' job and it came up a million bucks! that alone removed the hazy look, removed some of the finer swirls, made my car a nice bright white again. it looks more polished than it actually is
just a different option if (like me) you don't want to use abrasives

Take a look at trade tools they have their own brand polisher/sander.
By memory they are well under $200.
Mine has been no trouble& it gets used a fair bit with all my mates wanting to borrow it.:
