I asked this question in my thread in the panel beating forum but thought it might generate some better responses in here.
I have just painted a new bonnet and left front gaurd using acrylic pressure packs and then put a few coats of acrylic clear over the top. Now i have a few questions.
1) the paint is a bit blotchy, as I expected painting with spray cans, but what products can I use to get the best results. Im going to fully paint the whole car with spray gun etc eventually but wanted to get rid of the dented panels.
2) How long do i need to wait until i start finishing the paint? Im going to go over them with 1200 grit wet and dry to smooth it all off, but how long does the paint need to cure before i can polish after I have sanded it?

not enough paint on there thats y it is blotchy
You'll need something finer than 1200 grit. 2000 grit minimum imo. You'll then need to machine polish to get rid of the sanding marks. I wet sanded then polished the front quarter panel on my SS yesterday and it came up awesome! You can polish straight after sanding no need to wait. I'll go around the whole car eventually but it is hard to find the time with a baby. Trying to get 1 panel done a day.
So you reckon more paint Trav?
I can sand the clear coat back and put another coat or two on.
To be honest you are probably never going to get a great result from pressure packs, they just do not have the control. However if you can get enough paint on - thin multiple coats and then clear I would leave somewhere dry and dust free for 24 hours and then 'bake it' leave it in the sun for a day. After this go for some 2000 grit as Bravo mentions above to flatten as much out as possible. Then it will need a machine polish to remove the sanding marks and bring up the gloss. Leave for another week or two and apply your wax or sealant to protect.
