Default Regular polishing and waxing ..

I currently use the Meguiars 3 step system which consists of a paint prep/cleaner, polish and then a wax coating. Now lets say a month or two down the track I decide to give the car another rub down, after a wash should I be starting again with the paint prep etc or moving straight onto the polish and then wax? I'm wondering if the paint prep application will end up removing the old coatings that have been previously applied.

Yes paint prep/cleaner and polish will remove your wax. Remember polish to correct and wax to protect. So unless you're wanting to do correction then just skip to reapplying the wax. But to be honest your Meguiars wax probably has cleaners in it as well to help it bond. So even your wax you reapply will remove your old wax.

Gday, I use a similar Meguiars system, except mine is Paint Cleaner, followed by Gold Class Polish.
Meguiars say that you are to use the cleaner when you feel resistance on your hand, after you wipe it across a panel,
ie if it doesnt feel as smooth as glass, you need the cleaner.
As Bravo alludes to, after a polish, the resistance you would feel would be the wax that you applied?

Thanks for the replies guys, taken on board. Does anyone have any suggestions on better polish and wax applications once the Meguiars has run out? I'm always looking to improve things

Autoglym super resin polish is pretty good, and their extra gloss protection liquid wax. It's what I have been using for 6 years. Only problem is the wax only lasts about a month at the most.

I think this depends on solvent amount and how its worked. Not many waxes have strong solvents, to preserve the polish and oils already on, and to allow layering.

Instead of the 3 step system, give ColorX a shot next time. I am looking at trying this as an all in one for hand.

Car Care Products / Duragloss / Exterior / Paint Sealant / Paint Protection Pack

The above one is very hard to go past. One of the best all round.

If you want wax and some more correction Car Care Products / Dodo Juice / Exterior / Wax - Premium / Two Birds - Half Cut
is the one you want. Comes with cloths as well. Lime prime to do some rectification works. Talk to Carcare about using it, and the Dodo Juice is an excellent wax.

Over the counter Mequiars waxes will have solvents and cleaners in them which will remove old wax. They're designed for noobs to compensate for poor prep! I wonder why CCP don't sell Meg's crap! lol

Agreed. If you want quality products you will have to look further than your local supercheap

After seeing this product, I might just get rid of the Megs and try and get some of this stuff now! Do CCP ship products to NZ by chance? I don't see this product available through local vendors

Meguiars products are not as bad as people make them out to be. There are reputable detailers and other sites that sell them. I dont sell anything, but out of respect for this being in the Carcare products section they have excellent products and mention them in here.

I have had the same discussion with with people over oil...... widely used products will always have more bad reviews as they expose themselves to the masses like MObil, Castrol and Shell. All excellent oils. Meguiars and Poorboys are more open than other manufacturers, even explaining how some of their stuff works.

Bravotwozero - Most products have solvents, Dodo wax etc, solvents arent just used for cleaning, it just happens to be there as a carrier and as most of these things are petroleum derived. It then depends on how it is used. For arguments sake, Duragloss 105 has solvents and light cleaners right ? Then how does it not clean off and instead bind with the bonding agent ? Same as Megs and Mothers, they have cleaner waxes and normal waxes with a solvent carrier that will not remove what is below it.

Meguiars 3 stage, Stage 2 is polish with polishing oils, the final wax stage 3 does not remove it.............

Ice101 - for the price of some Meguiars products, Carcare has some better products at a better price. If you car is in good shape, the Duragloss pack is excellent, giving up to 12 months protection, and just run it through touch free car washes to keep clean and a light detailer if needed in between.

Yes we do, shipped an order out this week. Postage can sometimes be a bit expensive but generally just email through or submit a request here Contact Us and we can get you a quote for the products you are looking for. The online site does not cater for NZ or overseas at present.
