Hi folks,
Where I live, its difficult to find a good shade from the sun. UV levels are particularly high at this time of the year. It just occured to me that maybe I could find a wax that offers some sort of UV protection... is there such a wax?
I bought myself a bottle of Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Plus wax... how good of a wax is it? How long will it last? Will it offer any UV protection?

I did some searching for you but didnt find much at all, however i did find this from meguiars which i would tend to believe.
Id try giving your car a good detail then keep it protected with a spray on wax of some kind inbetween washes. Something like Optimum Car Wax 3.8L Bulk package or something as simple as Prima Hydro Spray Wax/Sealant 473ml, or give Meguiar's Quik Wax a go first as its a cheaper option. Some waxes do contain UV-protection agents, but the amount of protection that a microscopically thin layer of wax can provide is limited
The primary goal of a wax is to protect the top layers of paint that contain UV-protection agents from the paint manufacture. If you wash and wax your car regularly, your paint will be protected and you should suffer no major UV damage over the normal course of the life of the car.
Don't be fooled by some companies that lead you to believe that it is the UV protection in a wax that protects your car's finish from fading and failure, this is dishonest and simply not true. Taking care of the paint you presently have will go further to protect your finish than relying on protection supplied by a liquid you pour out of a bottle, or a wax you scoop out of a can. UV protection in a car wax formula is only an extra-dose of preventative maintenance, not the end-all, cure-all that some companies would lead you to believe.
Hi, thanks for your help. Indeed it is the clearcoat I'm sure (as they say: the top layers of paint) that protects the paint underneath with UV agents. And the wax acts as a barrier, protecting the paint and clearcoat from the elements.

because of where you live id skip the waxes if the car is your daily driver and go straight to a good sealant like duragloss 601 and 105, these combined can see 6 months protection. also you could give some wolf's chemicals a go or step up to the top shelf and get some nanolex gear. all these are availible from car care products who will be able to point you in the right direction to suit your needs and budget.
Thanks for the tip. I was thinking of switching to a sealant considering the harsh environment of Saudi. Online shopping is ruled out, customs into Saudi is very complicated and time-consuming. It all depends on what my local hardware store supplies. They stock up from time to time, so I'll keep a lookout for the sealant. In the meantime, Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba Plus wax is working fine.
