i know this is a commodore forum but someone might be able to help me out.

the missus has a 98 SB barina and to date its been through 3 alternators in as many months. one was faulty. the alterantor on now is less then a month old however with no accesorys on it charges at 13.2 and when the thermo fans kick in it reads 12.5v on the voltmeter. so basically the fans take all the charge at idle.

the alternator is rated at 100amps and im pretty sure thermo fans dont use that much power.

You need to check it with the engine doing about 2000RPM
No alternator will charge much at idle.

Check the connection between B+ on the alternator and the battery. could be a high resistance or broken cable.

Check battery and engine earth connections.
