Just happened in recent months but when I open the drivers door about half way I hear an electric type switching sound which is the same as when you go to unlock/disable the security system in the car. I suspect that there could be a broken wire in the door that breaks contact when the door is open ???

I was thinking that but I don't think so as the lights come on after the door is first opened but as you swing the door back and forth you can hear the clicking sound.

From where is the sound coming? eg. under the steering wheel where the fuses/relays are?

Not with the car at the moment, but it is exactly the same sound when you push the unlock button on the key to energize the power windows. When I get home I'll sus it out more.

If so ,remove your door cards and get to the wiring that goes via the rubber boot to the inside of the door. Test with a multi metre or even just a 12 volt curcuit tester to see if all wires are containing voltage. Inspect the wires for degraded isulation and yes look of course for obvious breaks in the wires.
Are all the door locks, interior lights and all that working as per normal?

Yes they do for now touch wood. I'll take the inner door panel off and check the wiring as you have suggested. Thanks all !
