Having a weird issue with my sun sensor in vr calais.

If I pull hard on the wires going from it to inside the dash, it works, suggesting a break inside a wire - does seem pretty unlikely but.

Anyone know if the lead from sensor (one black, one orange) runs into a plug/socket, then into the loom down to the climate control (where there's a green plug/socket on driver's side)?

I'm thinking there's maybe a problem with the plug/socket, if it exists.

So before I try to get behind the dash ....

If it's like the VQ the sensor has a plug only a few cm from it. Pull the vent thingo out and you will see the plug.

Cheers

Sorry - I should have been a little more clear - the vent under the windscreen at the top of the dash - that little flat round thing n the middle is the sun sensor.

How far did it come out - the plug will be inside the hole in the main dash.

Dont let the loom fall inside - else it's dash out - not fun.

Not very far - about 12cm - and no sign of a plug at all.

If I pull tight on the wiring it works - then as soon as I release it, it's gone.

Guess I'm going to have to take the demister facia off to see what's going on.

Bugger.

this is how it looks

there is no sign of a plug, and it can't be pulled out any further ...

the sensor functions OK when the the wires are pulled tight (with no pressure on the connection to the sensor itself)

checking the voltage across the sensor terminals, there is NO voltage at all when not working

hence it looks like a break in the wire ... not what you'd expect for sure

if I can't get it out (and unplugged) then I guess only option is to run a replacement wire down to the connector near the climate control unit.

It would have to unplug some place so you can get the vent off - or is it part of the main dash pad?

If not then the plug will be closer to the unit and you may be able to get it from under the dash.
