Hi all

Hope someone can help me with my VS radiator fan - it has me stumped.

With no AC on, the fan usually does not work (a couple of times it has, but usually not)

With AC on the fan works.

Changed the relays around - not that

Checked the fuses - all ok

One guy I know says to change the fan over and that will fix it - I kinda think it will be a sensor somewhere but I can not find one.

Can anyone help please?

Coolant temp sensor. Play around with the plug and clean the contacts.
When this goes faulty it will turn on the fans.

yep older holden cummdores had same deal...and fords...where the temp ensor in the water overflow ..heat water cooler/filler had the sensor...after time with dirty rad ...many people who use water only or people who dont mix 50/50 water coolant..
the boiling water..in the car does 3 things...
1) boils water to leave scum
2) boils water impurities to the point of a flowing gueeey mess
3) finds and moves all the scale from heater rad/and engine block around

So firstly a faulty sensor from dirty--water tells you your not being clean enough..in the system...
What you should do...if give the whole lot a flush...and shout the car a power flush for good luck...
clean the sensors.within the water system...
place 50/50 mix coolant water
and top up with coolant when it runs low...
water boils away...
so make sure the water you use in the car is clean and pure....not high in minerals....or additives... Yes rain water....but not bore water...
If you have the right mix..make sure your changing it often...
if its scumming up...
a clean rad system..when you drain it should look clean and shinny....
the coolant does that..
some people still add a few knobs of blue....blue was a dye blue coloured breach uesed for laundry,,,however its been used in cars for 100's of years to proform 3 things...
1) so a leak can be found and traced ..due to the strong dye in it
2) the bleach in the knobs of blue ...does that cleans the system
3) the bleach also stops the water scum from forming from water being reboiled over and over

Anyway there is a few tips of the day...could you use for 1 day or so cleaning with knobs of blue first then new coolant...bang on!
However you need to get cleaning...
Find a good quality coolant...and mix at the right ratio...some coolant can be used as is in a rad...
some have to mixed...
use the right type for the holden...:)

ENJOY
