GRr.. ok what was i thinkin... *Memory Blank*
OK Got it now.. Well i had this idea after driving my boss's car (Audi) After parking & turning off the car and opening the drivers side door, the headlights turn off, i was wonderin.. anyone had this idea for the VN, VP, VR etc..?
Would it be possible to wire in a relay so when you lock the doors via Central Locking/Remote to have the headlights automatically turn off.
I know its just as easy to do this manually, but at 4:30 am when ur drivin home .. DONT DRINK DRIVE, when your driving home after a looonnggg night out :P could it be possible to kill 2 birds with one stone..like locking teh car & having the lights turn off at the same time, then unlock the car whenever and turn the lights off on the dash..
Sorry if its confusing..hard to explain.

Aren't we lazy! Hehe
I know in a VS you can basically leave the headlights on all the time, as the system is designed to switch off the lights if you have turned the ignition off and then opened the drivers door. If you then want the lights to stay on with the engine off, you have to turn the switch back to off after opening the door and then turn them on again. There is also a feature in some higher models that allows you to have the lights stay on a set time after you have locked the car so the headlights light your path if it is dark etc.
I drive with my lights on all the time. When I park the car and get out the lights turn off automatically so basically the lights are left in the ON position all the time.

Well, I just found this thread....and now I have to goto work. It's actually quite a simple thing to do and involves TWO relays. Using one means the headlights go off when you opent he door and come back on once it's shut. I will post up a description on how to. I quite often do it for CD Players. Check back about 5pm Victorian time.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!
12Voltking - You can get us all excited about an answer and then not post! lol
Any updates? ;-)
I have a vx s pack and its a feature on my car. open doors, headlights turn off. might check if there is a way you could pinch one from a vx

Ok, just started working on the schematics for you boys. This design will do two things.....Switch your headlights off and leave your stereo running until you open the door.

Ok....my brain just took a nosedive and said..."Wait, how do we do this again?" Yup, forgot the layout in my head. So, I've jsut grabbed a pair of relays, and I've hooked them to a way which should work. Now, just gonna go pop them into the Camry....bbl

Ok, so I went downstairs hooked it all up...wtf?! it only worked on lo beams.....turns out Toyota in all their wisdom switch their headlights with positives and use a common earth.
But, I did find this..... http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp#drto
Now, if you look at it....instead of using a fused 12V source, cut the the headlight wire and send the 12Volt side to those wires and then hook the headlights them selves upto the wires that say radio acessories. Then it will only work when the lights are on.

If you are running through the same relay, you have to consider the power going through. You could blow a fuse using that relay or shirt a circuit. I can't imagine that it's set up to cope with the same power that the headlights will need.
