Recently I came across some firm that is putting Commodore engines in Toyota Hiluxes.
They said they use a "BCM simulator" so that the engine starts. I guess the ant-theft
system was cracked a while back. If they are doing it, how long have thieves been
hot-wiring Commodores then?

A week after the car rolled out from the factory I'd be thinking as after all the comms are not encrypted so just a matter of time

How much is it normally worth to get that done?

I told me mate to use an older wiring loom that doesn't have the key security thing (my old VQ never had it), but he said he needs to use the BCM to be able to use his ECU and his ECU has a special chip in it which matches the motor. Maybe he could change the chip over would that work? I didn't get much into ECU's.....carby for me. :p

Me mate got told if ya put power (not sure but I rekon it was a certain voltage) to the wire going into the ECU from the BCM it should get around it....apparently.

Its an interesting subject because i thought the same thing when a i bought a conversion kit wiring loom apart from breaking the steering lock its all you need to steal the car. Saying that i might just remind everyone that wanna be thieves could use threads like these to learn how to steal your car so be careful what you post.
