vc - vh tacho dash conversion question

Hi guys iv search hi and low and cant seem to find an answer anywhere. My problem is iv just installed a vh tacho dash into my vc sle that had a vacum gauge prior. drama is I dont if i have run a seperate wire to the negitive on the coil to the back of the dash cluster or is there a factory wire that im not aware of? any help would be muchly appreciated.
