2 things to check - the copper tracks on the back of the cluster can be broken or the speedo ribbon connector is no in all the way or broken.

The copper track can be fixed some times with silver foil and tape/glue.

I doubt the speed sensor died at the same time as you pulled the cluster out.

The backing often snaps close to or around where the 3 dash plugs go in.

Most of the time the main plastic backing will be cracked and there for snapping the copper track. If it is broken you can try to fix it by scratching a little of the green coating off and take on some silver foil so that it makes contact again. if this gets it working then you can look at replacing the PCB backing with a good one or replace the cluster.

have u tried those PCB track pens rather than using foil? not sure how well/long these last tho, i bought 1 2 try fix my rear window demisters tracks which worked but then didnt after my rear window got tinted, i think their cleaning solution took it off but i didnt worry as i ended up gettin a new rear window neways so didnt get 2 see how well/long it lasts.

In fact I have a VN L3 to repair. Last one I did with thin wire. This time foil and tape

ive get some of those PCB pens for when i try and volt mod some computer circuit boards, they work pretty well .. i would recommend them if you got the money to cough up as wrx said lol.. but the foil is alot cheaper and will probably do the trick!

I also have about 30 L2 PCB's in a box. I've killed alot of VR and VS L2 clusters over the past 3 years to upgrade VN/VP clusters. just cant bring my self to toss em out - figure 1 day people may want them lol.
