vn dome light

Hi guys/gals..

In my vn calais the dome light stays on when the car is shut and locked and so do the back passenger lights but when the dome light globe is out none work? The dome light is out now and the back lights dont come on even if you switch them on.. i know there all linked but what could be the prob? the glove box light works and there is no globe in the boot light.. Any ideas

The dome and reading lamps have the same supply but are earthed separately , meaning that even without the dome lamp globe your rear reading lamps should work independently regardless of the dome if you manually turn them on.

On the subject of the dome lamp remaining on. Have you checked all the door switches are working properly? check with a multimeter maybe one is stuffed.

will check to see if the wires are not bare and touching something elae tomorrow.. What volts should it be when the light is on? thanks for the help too

With the car not running and a good battery around the 12.7 volts measured on the supply side of the globe. If you have a dodgy earth you will also see voltage on the earth side, and that reading should be zero for a good earth and go up the worse the earth.

Also did a bit of research and it appears that the earth side of the dome light is also connected to the power window module and from october 89 onwards it also has a connection to the anti-theft module so perhaps theres issues there depending on your cars build date.

You did mention the problem is when the car is locked, so maybe the issue lies with the anti-theft module, unfortunately it sounds like a process of elimination by isolating the the wires to the various earth possibilities to find out the culprit.

Also the "press remote" on the dash used to work as well but since then that does not work and the dome light is all stuffed up as well.. All the power windos work and so does everything else powered its just the light and "press remote" now.. wonder if there conected some how?
