    Question No dash lights

Hi all, Im wondering if someone could assist me with a problem i have regarding my dash/instrument lights. I have owned my VTII for about 3 months now and when i bought it everything was working fine, after a visit to a mechanic for a service and coolant flush i had issues with my fan(in the car) staying on, the mechanic fixed this saying it was a sticky relay switch or something like that and he replaced the switch. I went away for a few days and while away discovered my air con and rear demister were now not working so when i got back home i took the car back to the mechanic, he pulled all my dash apart to tell me again it was a sticky relay and he fixed it, he didnt replace the switch this time but i drove away and air con and demister were now working. It wasnt til about 2 weeks later i went to drive at night andi found out my dash lights were not working, so i checked the fuses and it had blown, i replaced it with the same amp 1 that is required and it blew again straight away. I would really appreciate it if some could enlighten me to why this could be occuring. I am female(and maybe should be blonde when it comes to cars) but i dont wanna be ripped off by mechanics and auto electricians if its a simple fix.

Sounds like you need a new mechanic.
Also sounds like a short in the dash lights most likely caused by your mechanic.
The fan switch and air con switch were most likely left unplugged after he fixed the fan issue.
Rather than say I messed up.
I know i can charge her for a sticky relay. WTF air con and demister use 2 different relays but you need to unplug them to get the fan switch out.
All the controls on the dash i.e. air con rear demister fan switch have little lights in them plugged into your dash lights.
Take out the lights for the fan switch and air con and demister and replace the fuse again then once its working replace 1 light at a time.

I would say a wire is shorted around that area or if it is a auto there is a light under the shifter as well start with checking the shifter light and move up towards the fan switch looking at the wires for shorts.

What do you mean under the shifter? are you meaning where i change into drive etc. Id really like to take it back to the mechanic that has caused these problems but i fear he'll stuff something else and yes i have decided to find a new mechanic but its hard been a female cause a majority just see $$$$ signs when dealing with females and cars. thank you for your info and i will see if i can find someone to do this for me cause i dont know what im doing, wouldnt even know how to get my dash etc out.

Having trouble with lights and windows? I think you may need to find a reputable mechanic/auto electrician rather than vague descriptions with complex answers that are difficult to follow.

Is there a mechanic that your family/friends use? This may be an easier option than potentially causing further damage with no experience and incorrect tools.

The other question - is the car under any sort of warranty? You may be able to get assistance through that.

Sounds like your main problem is the conspiracy theory that mechanics are out to rip off females.

@ mint, no its not a conspiracy but a majority of mechanics working on a females car try anything to charge that bit extra, Not all but a majority, weather it but just saying that work needs to be done that doesnt or over charging for a job.

Yes under where you change it into drive he would have removed that top part to get to the screws to remove the fan switch
If you take it back ask him to call you before he charges you any money for fixing it.

And as far as going to a mechanic to get your car fixed male or female they will try to screw you over time and time again just my past Experience.
Find a friend who can use a volt meter.
    ask them for help.
