Hello all
Me and dad are doing a manual conversion on my vr ute. We have everything bolted in, new gearbox, ecu and instead converting the motor we bought a salvage vehicle and was able to take all the parts that we need off that including a engine for a manual. We now have to get the wiring sorted we have run the new loom run through and plugged it into the new ecu. But then we have found now that we could not get the starter to turn over. We have dash lights and we can hear the fuel pump start up and we had the battery on charge last night so it isnt that.We have also had the starter motor checked and it works fine. So then we decided to get creative and traced the wire that was the culprit, it was a purple wire coming out of the back of the ignition barrel and going to the relay box next to the battery. It then went from the relay box (start relay) to the starter soleniod. When we put a test light on this wire going to the starter solenoid, it had power but the light was pretty dim. We then pulled the start relay out aand ran a wire from where the relay was to the wire going to the starter and hey presto the engine turned over. How have we manged to do this and what can we do to fix it.
We do have pictures but are having problems uploading them, we'll continue to try to put them up but if anyone has an idea about with the starter problem, please let us know.
