Hi guys,
Im putting accessories and ignition on a switch and an engine start button and just want to check the wiring is correct i will not be using the key so Im hardwiring to the the wires off the ignition barrell. The engine start button has 3 terminals on it and I need to know what the third terminal is for. Is it for illumination of the engine start switch? If so do I just earth the terminal or put a illumination wire on it. Ive attached a diagram of all the wiring. Thanks

wiring is pretty much right, although i'd be using the switches to turn on relays. switches get broken too easy.
with the start button, the third terminal is generally an earth, you can hook it up to the earth of the oil pressure switch, alternator etc, so it goes out when the engine is running.
Thanks mate, i will be putting relays on just wanted to make sure the wiring was right. Thanks
Best way to test the switch is with a multimeter set to continuity.

Yeh mate Do you know the difference from ohms and continuity. You can use both.
Trust me on that.
Continuity means continued circuit you will get a reading of ohms in continuity mode. Not to mention it has the buzz mode so you dont have to look at the multimeter for continuity. (on some muti-meters)
Unless you really need to know the ohms.
Have a read of the following link mate.
http://www.ladyada.net/library/metertut/continuity.html
and how will you know if the beeping is the closed contacts of the switch, or the illumination? it will beep all the way through to about 100-150ohms.
and if its an LED, you won't have continuity one way anyway...
