Default Plug for Speed Alert VS

    ok quick question.

pretty much im going to put a new dashplate in and it has a hole in it for a speed alert/trip computer.
currently i just have the coin spot item.

im just wondering is the plug for the speed alert already in the loom.
and what does it look like?

i had the dash off today and took a few pictures of a plug that had nothing in it and is just tied back which is just sitting there.
could this be for the speed alert plug?
1st is it just tied back. 2nd is up close (yes its filthy. ive been trying to clean it up a little bit)

if not does anyone know what the back of the speed alert looks like so i can figure which plug i need?
    thanks

That looks like the rear demister plug - not used in a ute.

The speed alert plug is a flatish black plug and has a tube like cover on the first 200mm to protect the wires from the sharp edges.

You will need to get a plug and wire it in.... or just replace the dash loom with a L2 loom. (thats what I would do)

is it a big job to replace the dash loom with the L2 one?

also can that be used with the dash with no Tacho?

and thanks for the quick reply

I can change a loom over in about half an hour - but I've done a few now

The L1 cluster will work no problem with the L2 loom as the main 3 dash plugs are the same - just have a few extra wires for the speed alert.

its round with 2 pins in it.
sorry i dont have a front on view. but i dont want to repull the centre part of the dash apart (it was sitting below temp controls)

That loom is a L3 patch loom for the trip computer digital dash upgrade. I make the patch looms with the speed alert plugs in them along with the 4th plug - so you can run a level 1, level 2 or level 3 cluster in the car. For just an Executive L2 loom you would only pay around $30 to $50 from a wreckers.

I also convert lots of Ute L1 clusters to L2 by melting 7 holes in the green PCB and scratching off the green coating where the nuts go. Then just fit a set of L2 gauges (you can use the original speedo from the L1 cluster as they are the same).

so that means if i was to buy that loom. and a level 3 cluster and trip computer part for the dash (where speed alert would be)
im right in saying i can just pull the old one out. and plug the L3 cluster/loom/trip computer in and it will work fine? (or with a little playing about)

starting to get interested on this dash upgrading now =P
im sure there is a proper thread on lvl 3 upgrade. so ill also go try and find it
and use this search function most people dont seem to notice =P

however if i only go for speed alert.
so getting the L2 loom is best going to the wreckers?

thanks for all your help btw guys. its definately helping

Yes the patch loom is about 1 hours work and calibration if you choose to do that - getting the instant fuel readings spot on. The tread is called "tripin" and can guide you through the process of making a patch loom.

Yes wreckers are probably the bast place to get a L2 loom as they scrap most of them - not wanting to pull them out to add to the pile on the shelf LOL

    thanks for that.

i guess there may be some more business coming your way soon =P

and just one last thing regarding the L3 cluster.
ive read elsewhere about having the Odo changed on them. which is apprently illegal.
however if the Odo was going to be put up to a higher amount would they more likely to do it?
and do you know of any places in Melbourne that it can be done?
