Ignition won't work but stereo will

What is the problem when ignition won't turn on?
The stereo will but no dash lights will come on and nothing happens when you turn the key. Ive checked most of fuses and they seem alright. Could it be a computer problem?

Do you get lights on dash? Is it auto or manual? Check battery terminals

the key reader might be rooted in the key its self or around the ignition hole

I am pretty sure dash lights still come on when the key or reader aren't working (covered key contact with tape to test this) but the engine won't start. I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

An aftermarket alarm improperly installed could cause this if it goes faulty or is not deactivated properly.

or the starter motor is just rooted....might have a few loose wires??? needs a rebuild or something

I had the same problem yesterday, what happened that there is a small rod which the key turns when u switch on the ignition, that rod was broke, it is a small one, like a pencil, could be that.
