Default Oil Pressure Gauge Wiring (What have I done wrong)

    Hi Guys.

I wired up a new oil pressure gauge to my VS on the weekend and am having a few small issues.

    Heres how I wired it:

    Gauge:
+12V Power/12v Gauge Backlight > Spliced into pink ignition wire (the 12v feed I have used for gauges in the past with no issues)

Gauge Ground Wire > Grounded to one of the metal bars near the fuse box under the kick panel

    Oil Pressure Sender:
LED Memory (no idea what that does) > + Battery Terminal as directed by gauge instructions
Sensor Ground Wire > Grounded to the chassis

It seems to work ok but whenever I turn the headlights on or turn the indicators on it seems to throw the readings out by around 10-20PSI so it almost seems like its not been grounded correctly :/

The only thing I can think of is that I grounded the oil pressure gauge to the same point as my voltage gauge (which is also getting its 12v power from the pink ignition wire just FYI)

Can anyone tell me what could be wrong?

    Thanks

Shouldn't you have the backlight wired to your light circuit so it comes on witrh the headlights? Maybe that is your issue?

Yeah as above you shouldnt be wiring the gauge backlit to the ignition wire. Wire it to your headlights or something that dims when you switch your head lights on.

hmm, never been an issue in the past.

have always done it that way so the backlight stays on all the time which I prefer.

Pick up the power for the backlight from a different source then.

I would try the guage ground to the chassis or confirm that the metal bar you currently have it connected to, has a 'good' ground.

Ok, tried a heap of different places for grounding.... also tried getting my power from various locations with and without illuminations hooked up.

    Still same deal.

Think I will go and get some proper speco mechanical gauges....from what I have read I will never get a truely accurate reading with an electronic gauge

Dumb question but did you run the new oil psi sensor correctly into the sump?
I ran electric gauge on the vx and it worked great..
Also in cabin mechanical is defect territory.

Yeah I Installed the sensor correctly.

I know the mechanical gauges are defectable but they will find 50 odd visible things to get me on before they even notice the gauges haha

My light is connected to accessory power so it's easy to see in the daytime. That won't be the problem, gauge doesn't know if the light power is coming from acc, ign, lights, etc.... as long as it's 12 volts.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
