What the hell could they be for :p

Dealing with a VN 5 litre BT1.

I found what looks to be a capacitor wired into a small (~100mm long) adapter loom inserted inline with my air con condensor fan wiring. It bridges the power and earth wires. I will get a pic up later.

Months ago I was dumbfounded by the same setup on the power wire to my factory fuel pumps. One end to live, one end to ground.

Gf suggests it's a flux capacitor.. Thoughts? :)

That's written on the air con fan one if that helps anyone identify it.

Possibly someone has fitted the capacitors to even out the irregular voltage from the alternator because the regulator is fried. Maybe they thought it was cheaper to wire in some small capacitors than buy a new alternator.

Is this the same set up you have on your condenser fan?

Similar but mine's only a 2wire harness.

I found somewhere in an ECM manual that they are possibly there from factory. The same manual taught me the truth behind the oil pressure / fuel pump shut off debate. Shame the search function doesn't work. Holden Commodore Engine Control Module Information

Hopefully it isn't a problem that I threw a very very similar assembly in the fuel pump wiring in the bin months ago :p

Noise suppression.

Very common to do this on older cars when trying to eliminate "turbo noise" from the radio - the noise can be caused by anything that generates EMI. It looks like that's what they've done in your car.

Usual spots on the older cars are alternator, wiper motor (nearly all VB-VH have one off the front wiper motor), and the coil (used to prolong the life of points, but isn't needed on electonic systems unless there's interference).
looks like Customcreations was on the money in post #5 :)
