Hey folks.

I'm left midway through a tail light conversion from VT series 1 tail lights to VT series 2 tail lights because of this mystery wire I found.
It's spliced into the wiring inside the boot...

It goes through the grommit to the outside and down into the rear bumper.

I know what it isn't. It isn't rear parking sensors. And it isn't some weird rear bumper lights. It also doesn't come out when I give it a tug.

I will have to have a go at taking off the rear bumper to see where it goes and remove it.
The splicing at the main wiring looks shocking...:hmmm:

So for now I'm left with one yellow indicator and one white one. Huff.

Blimey.
Do they normally go that way or not? Cause as it stands I cant remove the tail light loom without pissing around with that splice...

Bit of a fart arse way of doing it imo.
It's usually wired inside the boot and has flat ribbon multi strand wire with the plug on the end.
You pull it out of the boot, plug it in to the trailer and close the boot lid on it. That's why they use flat ribbon wire.
That's how mine's wired. No external trailer plug screwed on any where.

Its the "traditional" way of doing it. For 99 percent of drivers out there its not a problem. Its not how I would do my car... but... it works. Lol

Yes it is traditional. All my other older cars were done the old way.
But most newer cars now don't really have a suitable place to mount a trailer plug, + it looks fugly. :)

Definitely the towing plug. I had a wee investigate this arvo and I unwrapped the wires from all that black tape... It looks like a freakin' mess under there but at least I can have a go at un wiring it. It's gonna have to go anyway if I ever replace the rear bumper so. Best try and see how to put it all back to "Normal". I'll post a picture in the morning. I didn't have time to do it today before it got dark.

This is how it was put together. Some pretty clever slpicing tools I must say. They were quite easy to pull apart and I only had to remove the towbar wires and just close the clips again to maintain the circuit to the tail lights. :) So that's gone. I was able to remove the old wire loom and fit the new one for the new tail lights
