So I'm installing an Auto into my 4runner, and the T700 is the box I'm using, does the factory 5 speed/304 v8 loom have a partnered plug on the it for the inhibitor switch?

Or should I just attach the starter motor trigger wire to R, D, 3 2, 1 effectively breaking the circuit when engaged or something?

A manual loom will not have any provisions for a neutral safety switch... if thats what your asking. You will need to feed the coil of the starter relay through existing neutral safety switch... or bypass it altogether if you don't want the neutral safety switch.

Sorry mate, a little tired and am not sure I'm grasping your question.

Early Commodores had the inhibitor on the shifter, in the cabin, VT onwards have the inhibitor on the box.

The inhibitor wiring on the early ones were all part of the body harness, and the later ones are probably not much different.

What model is the box out of, and what shifter are you using?

wamboin23, The box is from a VQ statesman, and I'll run the standard shifter.

Tasmaniak, I just need to know what the inhibitor switch is meant to hook up to if I have a 5 speed loom? Could it have a connection on the factory loom by default, or should I hook it up somehow?

Because I don't want to be able to start it in gear, for obvious reasons :)

You will need to hook it up somehow and it is very basic wiring to do so.

The inhibitor wire is the earth off the start relay.
So, when in gear, the earth to the start relay is cut, not allowing the car to start.
When in neutral or park, the earth is restored to the start relay, thus allowing the car to start.

As Tas said, it wouldn't be hard to install.

You can see in the diagram below, the start relay and the inhibitor earth wire coming from it.
I know this diagram is for the VT/VX models, but it would be basically the same on all models.

Ah good work!

Cheers for that, I'll get onto it this week.

Thanks for the help.
