Reverse camera in 08 ssv ute

You can't do it with out the Auto-Switching interface, what it does is simple but can't be emulated.
Sure you could fit a camera, hook it to rear aux and select it when you want. But you will be limited to 3km/h then black screen.
The interface will switch to rear aux when reverse is selected then revert back to the previous source. It also allows Video in Motion (VIM) up to 30km/h, more than enough for reversing speeds.
As for rear aux overriding the front aux, I can't honestly answer as I have never had anything plugged into the front. But I presume it adds another source when both are available. Rear aux needs to be enabled in the menu before it can be used.
