hi,

i have tried to connect a new headunit to my VX 2001 but its doing something strange. The second I connect the new unit; the antenna goes up and the lights on the unit comes on but goes off after 3 seconds and nothing happens??

I have followed the wiring diagram from the link below;

Installing a Head-Unit Into a VT-VX Commodore | Decibel Car Audio the SPL Knowledgebase

I have connected the following;

Antenna - yellow/red
Batt 12V - Orange/black (is this the same as constant??)
Acc - Yellow

I am left with the following cables not in use;
-tan
-grey
-brown/white
-yellow/black

I am pretty sure I got the speakers + and - all correctly done.

on the new headunit's wiring harness, there is a wire labelled reverse constant, not sure what this is for?

Am pulling my hair out trying to get this thing to work...any help will be greatly appreciated!!

I'll be completely honest with you, the easiest way is to spend like $20 on ISO harnesses.

First of all, what head unit is it you are trying to install?
And yes, Batt 12V is constant power

Its a 2din unit i got off ebay.

I have followed the following wiring from the link above;

Accesories - Yellow
Constant - Orange/White (sometimes Orange/Purple) - i dont have this cable, only a orange/black?)
Illumination - Brown/White - (not connected)
Earth - Black/White
Power Antenna - Yellow/Red (is this correct wire for VX?)

i am not sure if the cabling diagram i got for the VX is accurate?

ok i found a blown radio fused that might have been caused during the cabling which was replaced but the headunit is doing the same thing. The power comes on for a couple of seconds when connected and goes off (antenna goes up and doing during the same time). I have checked the wiring connections and they are all secure.

When i turn the ignition key or set to acc nothing happens, its like a dead unit. The wire that gives the HU power is yellow? Am guessing theres something wrong with the inginition source? Also are there any other fuses to check, like under the bonnet that might have shorted during the installation?

thanks
