I own a vt commodore and both rear power windows are really sluggish, on hot days they sometimes won't open for a while and a few times I've had smoke come from under the switches. The front are ok going down but slow going up. Where should I start in terms of diagnosing my problem?

Check to see if they are any faster using the rear window switches. If so, I'd suggest pulling apart the main switch try cheer and cleaning the contacts to allow a proper transfer of current.

The window sliders could also be dried up and require some lubrication. Use white/lithium grease..

Best bet... do both.

They're the same when using the back switches and the front are slow only going up, so would that be wiring more towards the fuse board or?
I'll get some of that grease and give them a go over.

if it's the same regardless of which switch you use, I would assume your runners/belts are dry.

Alright well I'll give them a go over when I've got the time, thanks.
But just curious, what would've caused the smoke?

excessive current draw as it was trying to fight the dry rubbers on the way up.

You were burning the existing wiring.

no sweat. The wiring will probably be ok. Wouldn't hurt to pop the switch out and have a look though. Burn point would be at the plug but if any damage happened it will be internally. reality is, if all works well after lubricating, don't sweat it.
