ve lumina blinker problem

ok so today after work (stinking hot day) i jump in the car to drive home and find that when blinker control arm is in normal position the right blinker is on,when pressed up as usual the left blinker is on.when i press down the right blinker some times comes on then stops,if i push right down it stops ,so basically i had to drive with blinker arm down to be able to drive almost normally .any ideas ? maybe fuse?thinking bit more.cheers

I'm not really familiar with the VE's, but I would say the contacts in the stalk itself.
